On June 6, at the 7th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh submitted a document requesting the National Assembly to approve the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term.
The person nominated for this position is Mr. Le Thanh Long, Minister of Justice.
The resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Mr. Le Thanh Long as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term was passed with 468/469 delegates voting in favor (equal to 96.10% of the total number of National Assembly delegates).
With the newly appointed personnel, the Government leadership currently has 5 people including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and 4 Deputy Prime Ministers: Le Minh Khai, Tran Hong Ha, Tran Luu Quang, and Le Thanh Long.
Mr. Le Thanh Long was born on September 23, 1963, in Quang Tho ward, Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province. He has a PhD in Law; Senior in political theory.
Mr. Le Thanh Long is a member of the Party Central Committee, 12th and 13th terms; a National Assembly delegate, 14th and 15th terms.
During his career, Mr. Le Thanh Long held the following positions: Specialist of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Justice); Officer of the Secretariat of the Mekong River Commission (Bangkok, Thailand); Secretary of the Minister of Justice; Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Justice); Director of the Department of General Law-making Issues (Ministry of Justice); Deputy Minister of Justice.
In March 2014, Mr. Le Thanh Long was transferred to the position of Deputy Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee.
More than a year later, in October 2015, the Prime Minister decided to transfer and appoint Mr. Le Thanh Long, Deputy Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, to hold the position of Deputy Minister of Justice.
In April 2016, the National Assembly approved Mr. Le Thanh Long to hold the position of Minister of Justice at the request of the Prime Minister.
On February 1, 2019, Mr. Le Thanh Long concurrently held the position of Member of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption.
