NVIDIA has signed agreements with several partners to move its production chain from other countries to Vietnam, committing to invest 4-4.5 billion USD in the next 4 years, helping to create about 4,000 direct jobs and about 40,000-50,000 indirect jobs.
Want to promote growth then along with renewing growth drivers
On the morning of December 14, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the National Steering Committee for Semiconductor Industry Development, chaired the first meeting of the Steering Committee.
Speaking at the opening of the first meeting of the Steering Committee, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that digital transformation, green transformation, development of circular economy, smart economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy, and night-time economy are the goals and orientations of the world.
If Vietnam wants to combine national strength and the times, it must go in the right direction of the times, accurately assess the situation and respond with timely, appropriate and effective policies, in the spirit of "keeping up, progressing together and surpassing".
In the coming period, we must achieve two 100-year goals (by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding and by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the country's founding), which requires breakthroughs, especially in economic growth; economic growth will lead to an increase in GDP scale, an increase in per capita income, an increase in labor productivity, an improvement in the material and spiritual life of the people, and an elevation of the country's position.
The Prime Minister stated that to promote growth, we must renew traditional growth drivers and consider this a revolution that establishes a new historical process and world order.
Suggesting some major orientations, the Prime Minister stated that it is necessary to raise awareness and have breakthrough thinking about the position, role and importance of new growth drivers, especially artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cloud computing; perfect institutions, give priority to selected industries; develop infrastructure, including electricity infrastructure; and train human resources.
The Prime Minister requested ministries and branches to urgently implement the "Human Resource Development Program for the Semiconductor Industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" and the "Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030".
The Prime Minister also noted that digital transformation is very broad, but the core is research and development of artificial intelligence based on data; Vietnam's artificial intelligence must be based on Vietnam's data.
Emphasizing that the current situation is very favorable, the Prime Minister requested that after issuing the meeting's conclusions, ministries and branches need to urgently get involved, actively and proactively implement tasks with high determination, great efforts, drastic actions, focus, quickly seize opportunities, turn into concrete actions, do each task properly, finish each task to turn the situation around and change the state.
NVIDIA commits to invest $4-4.5 billion over the next four years
At the meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said: "Vietnam is emerging as an attractive destination for investors in the semiconductor industry. This is thanks to high-quality human resources with competitive costs; strong investment and upgrading of infrastructure; increasingly open and transparent mechanisms and policies; high political determination of Party and State leaders, especially the attention and close direction of the Prime Minister."
Vietnam currently has 174 FDI projects in the semiconductor sector with a total registered capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD. Typically, Samsung plans to invest in 2 semiconductor testing and packaging factories in Vietnam with a total expected investment capital of about 4.1 billion USD.
In particular, for the world's number 1 technology corporation, NVIDIA, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with relevant agencies to establish two groups, including the Working Group for Cooperation Implementation and the Negotiation Group with NVIDIA.
According to Mr. Dung, these two groups have discussed and worked with NVIDIA Corporation to attract investment, concretize cooperation plans and have achieved many breakthrough results, bringing great resonance and raising Vietnam's position in the region and the world as a destination for high technology, semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence.
NVIDIA has signed agreements with several partners to move its production chain from other countries to Vietnam, with a commitment to invest between 4-4.5 billion USD in the next 4 years. This will help create about 4,000 direct jobs and about 40,000-50,000 indirect jobs in the coming years.
On December 5, a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese Government and NVIDIA Corporation was signed to cooperate in establishing a Research and Development Center and an AI Data Center in Vietnam.
The agreement is an important "push" to help Vietnam make a leap forward in technology in the coming time, with a large spillover effect, attracting the attention of other high-tech investors in the world, especially in the fields of AI and semiconductors, to invest in Vietnam; at the same time, attracting and retaining many talents in the fields of semiconductors and AI.
The signing of the agreement with NVIDIA has been highly appreciated by domestic and international public opinion for the determination and drastic actions of leaders at all levels, especially the close direction of the Government, the Prime Minister and the proactiveness and positivity of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
This event also caused a big stir in the technology business community and countries around the world.
"Immediately after signing the Agreement with the Vietnamese Government during the visit and working session of Chairman Jensen Huang, NVIDIA immediately implemented related tasks such as recruiting people, perfecting the leadership apparatus, and consolidating and attracting domestic and foreign talents to work at the Research and Development Center," Minister Nguyen Chi Dung informed.
