Regular consumption of carbonated water causes many negative effects on the body, such as weight gain and tooth decay. The body metabolizes the sugar in carbonated water very quickly, causing a sudden increase in blood sugar and stimulating fat storage.

Some studies have also shown that fructose affects the brain and hormones, contributing to weight gain. Additionally, because of its high sugar content, carbonated drinks can put pressure on the insulin-regulating mechanism, increasing the risk of insulin resistance and diabetes.

According to Media Feed , the phosphoric acid in carbonated water can interfere with calcium absorption, negatively affecting bone health if your diet is deficient in calcium. Carbonated water also increases the risk of leptin resistance - the hormone that controls satiety. When your body is leptin resistant, you may feel constantly hungry, leading to overeating and unwanted weight gain.

The high sugar content in carbonated drinks has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia. Some studies have shown that carbonated drinks can increase triglycerides and bad cholesterol, contributing to cardiovascular problems. Additionally, regular consumption of carbonated drinks can stimulate inflammation and oxidative stress, worsening cardiovascular health conditions over time.

Obesity - one of the consequences of carbonated water consumption - is a risk factor for many types of cancer. In addition, some carbonated drinks contain caramel coloring, which includes the compound 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI), classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Sugar-free sodas may cut calories, but they come with artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. Some studies suggest these may affect gut microbiota and trigger sweet cravings, although more research is needed.
