"Why do I see you sad, sometimes you cry, mom?"
Over the past two days, social media has been circulating a photo of a handwritten letter believed to be from Tran Bang Nhi (a 7th grade student at Phan Dinh Phung Secondary School, Vu Quang District, Ha Tinh) with emotional content describing the pitiful situation of a classmate.
Female student Tran Bang Nhi writes a handwritten letter asking for a scholarship for a classmate in difficult circumstances.
According to Thanh Nien reporter's investigation, this letter was sent by Bang Nhi to Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy (residing in Thua Thien - Hue province), an acquaintance of the female student.
At the beginning of the letter, Bang Nhi shared about himself and his family situation: "Dear Uncle, I feel like a lucky and happy child. I am loved by my parents, studying in an environment with great teachers and friends. I get to learn to draw, and play the sport I love. Although my family is not rich, perhaps the best things my parents have given us. My younger brother said: "Our family is poor but happy, right?" And I suddenly realized that happiness is something as simple as that! But dear Uncle, there are friends who do not have that joy. Today I want to share the story of a classmate of mine and hope you can help me."
Bang Nhi continued in the letter: "That friend is Pham Quang Hoai, a classmate of mine. Last year, I came home and asked my mother: "Why do I see my friend sad? Why does he cry sometimes?" My mother said: "Hoai has not lived with me since he was little, and his father is sick. He has been raised by his grandparents since he was little. You should help and encourage him."
Nhi continued writing: "We have been friends for two years now, and our homeroom teacher has been very helpful in our studies. But uncle! Two months ago, his grandfather, who is over 70 years old, got cancer, and things were already difficult, but now they are even more difficult. When his father and grandmother can't do anything, I'm afraid that the hope for the two of them to continue going to school will gradually fade away without anyone to help. I'm very worried about Hoai. He not only needs help mentally but also physically. If you can help, I believe that with your help, Hoai will feel more confident in his studies. I hope you will read my thoughts and I believe you will find a way to help Hoai! Thank you very much!"
Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy wrote on his personal Facebook page
On his personal Facebook page, Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy also shared a photo of the letter Bang Nhi sent him with the status line: "A 7th grade student in Vu Quang, Ha Tinh wrote a letter asking for a scholarship for a classmate who is at risk of having to stop studying. I was so touched when I received the letter!".
Mr. Thuy's status also received many likes, comments and shares. Many people admired the female student's kindness and also praised the school for "cultivating good handwriting and personality".
"We were very moved reading the letter"
Speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, Principal of Phan Dinh Phung Secondary School, confirmed that the handwritten letter asking for a scholarship for a friend that is spreading on social networks is from Tran Bang Nhi, a 7A student of the school.
"The content of the letter written by Bang Nhi accurately reflects the difficult circumstances of his classmate Pham Quang Hoai. When reading the letter, we were very moved because the school has known about his situation for a long time and has made efforts to create all conditions to help him. Bang Nhi is the monitor of class 7A, an excellent student in all aspects. When he saw his classmate's situation, he wrote a letter to an uncle he once knew to ask for help. During the process of writing the letter, Bang Nhi was also guided by his mother," said Mr. Thanh.
According to Mr. Thanh, Quang Hoai has lived with his father and grandparents since he was a child. Hoai has an older brother who is in 10th grade. Hoai's mother left a long time ago, Hoai's father is "mentally unstable" and the family is poor.
"In addition to tuition exemption, Hoai does not have to pay other contributions. The school also often gives gifts and provides the best support so that she can study with peace of mind," Mr. Thanh informed.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoa, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Vu Quang District, because Hoai's family is in difficult circumstances, during the 2023-2024 school year and the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the local government and organizations in the district have supported and given gifts to encourage this male student and his brother, Pham Quang Dat.
"Because of his average academic performance, Hoai did not receive the required scholarships. In addition to the help of the local government and the school, we also hope that benefactors will help his family's situation," Mr. Hoa shared.
