After more than 20 days of the rare accident, young female doctor Hoang Minh Ly has overcome the critical stage, her health has improved and she is receiving intensive treatment at the Department of Spinal Neurosurgery, Hanoi Medical University Hospital.

On the morning of May 11, sharing about Ms. Ly's condition, Dr. Tran Quang Trung (Spinal Neurosurgery Department, Hanoi Medical University Hospital) said that Ly's health is currently improving.

According to Dr. Trung, Ms. Ly was transferred to the emergency room in a very serious condition, with multiple injuries, multiple fractures of the vertebrae, spinal cord damage causing complete paralysis of both legs, multiple broken ribs causing closed chest trauma, hemothorax, bilateral pneumothorax, and abdominal trauma.

In particular, the accident caused Ms. Ly to suffer a slipped vertebrae that severely compressed her thoracic and lumbar spinal cord, causing loss of sensation from the chest down, complete paralysis of both legs, and loss of bladder and bowel control.

After being admitted to the emergency room, doctors at Hanoi Medical University Hospital urgently performed surgery, helping the young female doctor escape from critical condition. Then, a few days ago, Ly continued to have a second surgery. Currently, the necessary surgeries have been completed, after about 2 to 3 weeks if there are no other complications, Ms. Ly can be discharged from the hospital.

According to Dr. Trung, although Ms. Ly's health has improved a lot, it is very difficult for her to fully recover.

Due to a serious accident that damaged her spinal cord, Ms. Ly lost feeling, became paralyzed in both legs, and had incontinence. Intensive treatment may help her to sit and use a wheelchair in the future.

"Caring for patients later will be difficult. Both patients and their families must make an effort to overcome it. Especially for patients, when experiencing such a big shock, it can easily affect their psychology. Therefore, families and relatives need to encourage and care a lot more," Dr. Trung shared.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on the evening of April 20, Ms. Hoang Minh Ly (29 years old, from Nghe An province) was drinking coffee with friends at a coffee shop on Thai Ha street, Trung Liet ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi.

At that time, it was raining heavily, a large glass panel from the second floor collapsed on her. The incident caused Ms. Ly to be hospitalized with serious injuries.
