Yen Minh farmers unite to develop agriculture

BHG - With the companionship and support of Farmers' Associations at all levels, farmers in Yen Minh district strengthen their connection, compete in production, and promote the development of local agricultural economy.

Yen Minh District Farmers' Association currently has 12,834 members with 18 Association bases and 274 branches. The situation of agricultural, farmer and rural production in the district is increasingly improving, shifting to depth, forming typical commodity products, with 18 products achieving OCOP certification. Along with that, the total food output, value of crop products, proportion of livestock, cattle, poultry... has increased steadily over the years. The work of consolidating, gathering and developing members has been promoted, with regular training and development for Association leaders on implementing key economic programs to help improve the Association's grassroots activities.

Comrade Pham Cao Cuong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Yen Minh district, said: The Association at all levels has focused on innovation in implementing farmers' movements, paying attention to selecting and building advanced models. Strengthening guidance and support for farmers to participate in collective economic forms and building and developing models of branches, professional associations and accessing loan sources for production development. Up to now, the Farmers' Association of the district has built 79 Savings and Loan Groups with a total outstanding debt of over 129.2 billion VND with 2,812 farmers participating in loans. The Farmers' Support Fund of the district is also managing over 1.3 billion VND, with 18 households having outstanding debt. Since then, Farmers' Association members have maintained and expanded many effective models such as: Raising black pigs for reproduction; linking to grow specialized vegetables and medicinal herbs; poultry farms; homestay community tourism services... helping to improve the quality of life, especially for members in remote, isolated and border areas.

Yen Minh District Farmers' Association regularly coordinates with the government and specialized sectors to focus on disseminating and implementing policies and mechanisms on agricultural and forestry development to members and farmers. The Association's branches have mobilized farmers to plant crops according to the time frame, apply science and technology in production, and raise livestock in the direction of commodities, family farms and farms. Through disseminating information, the ideological situation of members and farmers has stabilized, actively participating in the sustainable development of the agricultural sector. Notably, implementing the specialized resolution on renovating mixed gardens, the district's farmers have implemented 171 gardens that meet 4/4 criteria, with 162 gardens continuing to renovate and improve efficiency. Along with that, the proportion of livestock farming reached 36.1% of the agricultural sector structure, an increase of 0.9% over the same period.

Focusing on linking the emulation movement of the Farmers' Association with the implementation of local political tasks, farmers in Yen Minh district have actively competed in good production and business. Every year, over 77% of farmers in the area register to compete for the title of good production and business farmers at all levels. Through the assessment of 2024, the whole district has 1,572 farmer households achieving the title of good production and business at all levels; of which, there are 1,131 households at the grassroots level, 333 households at the district level, 93 households at the provincial level and 15 households at the central level. Through the movement, many typical farmers have appeared and spread, daring to think, daring to do, searching for plants and animals with productivity and quality, generating an income of over 100 million VND/year. At the same time, it has positively impacted the economic restructuring in communes and towns, forming commodity production areas.

The results achieved from the Farmers' movement are an important premise for Yen Minh district to continue developing sustainable agriculture, becoming one of the "bright spots" recognized by the province.
