According to Reuters , farmer Tanyapong Jaikham and a group of workers planted seedlings in many adjacent fields in Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand to create a "cat holding fish" painting to attract tourists and cat lovers.

“We expect tens of thousands of people to come see the work in the rice fields,” he said.

It is known that to create this unique work, Mr. Tanyapong and his workers used GPS to determine the actual rice planting locations according to the colors outlined on the drawing.

Tanyapong said that the exact locations of which rice plants to plant and the way the rice plants change color as they grow must be determined, and the final painting, when the rice is ripe, must have the same color as the original drawing.

Observation towers have also been erected around the fields so visitors can admire the artwork based on the Thai proverb: “Fish in the water and rice in the fields.”

As the world's second-largest rice exporter after India, Thailand aims to export 8.5 million tonnes this year.

The venue is also suitable for young people who want to learn about the interaction between art and technology, Tanyapong said.

According to Mr. Tanyapong, this approach can help farmers develop both agriculture and tourism.

“In the past, rice was mainly considered as a staple food. This way we can develop tourism and agriculture at the same time,” Tanyapong said.
