Malaysia-China exchange 31 cooperation agreements on AI, trade and tourism

China is willing to work closely with Malaysia to promote the China-Malaysia community of shared future along high-level strategic lines and bring more benefits to the people of the two countries.

On April 16, within the framework of his state visit to Malaysia, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the exchange of 31 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and documents related to many areas of cooperation between the two countries, including trade in services, digital economy , artificial intelligence (AI), tourism, etc.

According to a VNA correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, three cooperation agreements were exchanged between Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, including joint agreements to promote cooperation under the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative as well as to enhance development cooperation and support the implementation of the Global Development Initiative.

In addition, the two sides also reached an agreement on general visa exemption for holders of official and ordinary passports.

In the field of trade, the two sides also exchanged three agreements including trade in services, standardization cooperation and strengthening the Malaysia-China "Two Countries, Two Parks" initiative.

In addition, Malaysia and China also exchanged a number of agreements to enhance cooperation in the fields of railways, digital technology, andeducation .

The two sides also exchanged additional memorandums of understanding covering areas under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Ministry of Higher Education; and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and cooperation between media organizations and universities.

Another notable point is the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of news and information.

Through this MoU, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Xinhua will cooperate in joint media activities, especially news exchange and co-production of programs and documentaries to showcase the unique cultures of each country and promote deeper understanding between the people of the two countries.

There is also another MOU regarding media between the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) and China Media Group (CMG) and the Malaysian national news agency (Bernama).

Speaking at a press conference before his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Seri Perdana Complex (Prime Minister's Office) on the same day, Prime Minister Anwar said that as the current ASEAN Chair and National Coordinator for ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between ASEAN and China through dialogue, mutual trust and people-centered initiatives.

For his part, President Xi Jinping expressed his strong commitment to bilateral cooperation with Malaysia.

He said he is willing to work closely with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further promote the China-Malaysia community of shared future in a high-level strategic direction and bring more benefits to the people of both countries and contribute to regional prosperity.

In 2024, Malaysia and China celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Since 2009, China has been Malaysia's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. In 2024, the total trade value between the two countries will reach 115 billion USD, accounting for 16.8% of Malaysia's total global trade value of 600 billion USD./.
