At this time, it is almost the end of the hot chili export harvest season in Dien Phong commune (Dien Chau). All chili growers are excited because this chili crop has outstanding productivity. Each hectare reaches 35-40 tons, about 5 tons/ha higher than in 2024, and 10 tons/ha higher than in 2023.
Mr. Que Van Son in Dong Ho hamlet, Dien Phong commune, grows 3 sao of chili. This is the third year he has grown the local chili variety, so he has a good understanding of planting, care and disease management techniques. Therefore, the chili yield reaches nearly 2 tons/sao. At the beginning of the season, the price of chili fluctuated from 13,000-15,000 VND/kg, at times up to 20,000 VND/kg. After deducting all expenses, he still made a profit of 20 million VND/sao.

This winter-spring chili crop, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dien's family in Nha Nghi hamlet planted nearly 3 sao of chili peppers under a partnership agreement between Dien Phong Agricultural Cooperative and businesses. The weather was favorable so the chili plants grew well, the chili peppers were large, red, and beautiful. With this area, from the beginning of the season until now, her family has harvested about 2 tons of hot chili peppers, if all are harvested, it is estimated to reach 1.8 tons/sao.
At the beginning of the season, when harvesting green chili, the cooperative bought it for 12,000-13,000 VND/kg. In the main season, when the chili is ripe, the price of chili increases, ranging from 15,000-20,000 VND/kg. "High productivity, chili prices increase sharply, so each sao has a profit of 20 million VND or more. Now it is the end of the harvest season, chili prices have decreased, but people still have a good profit thanks to previous crops, chili prices are high," said Ms. Dien.

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the entire Dien Phong commune has over 10 hectares of chili for export. This is the third year that Dien Phong commune farmers have introduced the local chili variety for export, so they are familiar with the techniques of covering with plastic, watering furrows, pruning branches, making trellises and using fertilizers in the right dosage. As a result, chili plants grow and develop well, and chili plant yields have increased dramatically.
Mr. Que Van Duyen - Director of Dien Phong Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative said: “For each sao of chili, farmers invest 3 million VND and take about 2.5 months of care to harvest. Thanks to good disease management, the chili plants are disease-free and have high yields. Chili yield reaches 35 - 40 tons/ha. In addition, chili is purchased by the company at a price 5,000 VND/kg higher than last year, the purchase price is stable so chili growers have a good profit, everyone is excited. For each hectare, people have a profit of 200 million VND or more”.

Based on many years of experience growing chili peppers with the joint model, Mr. Duyen said that, in addition to planting according to the technical process as committed to the company, harvesting according to the company's standards, the favorable conditions that farmers in Dien Phong commune have are soil and climate suitable for the Chi Dia chili variety - this type of chili has a higher price than Chi Thien chili. Moreover, thanks to the early crop arrangement, planting from November last year and harvesting in January next year, "avoiding" the harvest time of other chili growing regions in the country.
Meanwhile, at this time, the cold weather increases the demand for imported chili from the Chinese and Korean markets, so when the supply is limited and purchasing power increases, the price of chili will increase. During the main season, from April to July, the price of chili will decrease due to abundant supply.

In addition, this year's chili crop, the chili growing regions in the North and South Central regions have had unfavorable weather conditions due to storms and rain, reducing the yield and quality of chili. This has led to a decrease in supply, causing chili prices to increase.
