Milestones through 65 years of formation and development
Dalat University (Lam Dong) is a public university established under Decision No. 426/TTg dated October 27, 1976 of the Prime Minister on the basis of Dalat University Institute (established in 1957) with the assigned function and task of "Training scientific and technical staff in a number of key fields, a number of fields necessary for the system of scientific research institutes that have existed and will exist in Dalat".
Dalat University - a place with an ideal research and learning environment for students
From a comprehensive university, Dalat University has become a multidisciplinary, multi-field university education institution training from university to doctoral level, meeting most of the human resource needs for fields and professions suitable to the specific strengths of the Central Highlands, South Central Coast and Southeast regions. Up to now, Dalat University has a total of 57 training majors; including 6 doctoral training majors, 10 master's training majors and 41 university training majors, divided into main fields: natural sciences - engineering technology; economics, business and management; social sciences - humanities and teacher training majors, in which the number of master's and doctoral training majors alone accounts for over 50% of the total number of existing training majors of university education institutions in the Central Highlands region.
Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Head of Training Management Department of Da Lat University, said that all of the school's training programs have been built according to the CDIO international output standard approach, with the core training values of "knowledge - skills and attitudes", in line with the school's educational philosophy of "Recipient - Enlightenment - Identity". Da Lat University is a member of the International CDIO Association and the Southeast Asian University Quality Assurance Network (AUN). In addition to being a university that has achieved quality accreditation according to the Ministry of Education and Training's 2.0 standards, the school has so far had 8 training programs that have achieved program quality accreditation, including 3 programs according to the AUN-QA standards and will continue to have 2 more programs accredited in 2023 according to this international standard.
Regarding the permanent teaching staff, the school currently has 312 lecturers, with more than 98% having postgraduate degrees, including 1 professor, 16 associate professors - PhDs, and 105 PhDs. The number of permanent lecturers with PhDs accounts for 40%, far exceeding the average of universities nationwide.
Up to now, more than 77,000 students, trainees and postgraduates have graduated from Dalat University, contributing a huge and high-quality human resource to the socio-economic development of the region and the whole country. In particular, from 2015 to present, more than 55% of students graduating from Dalat University in the Central Highlands region have contributed a huge human resource to the socio-economic development of this region.
Dalat University plays a role in contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated October 6, 2022 of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Investment in facilities is always focused on by Dalat University.
Dr. Le Minh Chien, Principal of Dalat University, said that the university must be the leading higher education institution in successfully implementing Resolution 23-NQ/TW of the Politburo. Dalat University has identified a number of key tasks in the coming period:
Firstly, on the basis of mobilizing investment resources from the State and the school, continue to increase investment in the infrastructure system, modernize the system of lecture halls, laboratories, information technology infrastructure systems, and digital transformation in teaching and management.
Second, continue to promote training policies, improve the professional qualifications of the permanent teaching staff in accordance with the development plan of the school's training professions, especially prioritizing resources to develop a team of lecturers with doctoral degrees, professorial and associate professorial titles.
Third, focus resources, promote the shift of training professions, and develop new training fields in line with the development orientations in Resolution 23-NQ/TW of the Politburo.
Fourth, invest in a number of key faculties and departments to establish at least three member schools with the goal of developing Dalat University into Dalat University by 2030.
Fifth, strengthen the accreditation of training programs according to national and international standards; promote cooperation with enterprises and international cooperation in training and scientific research, especially the establishment of centers and research institutes for cooperation between schools and enterprises to enhance scientific research activities and technology transfer. By 2030, Dalat University strives to become one of the leading higher education institutions in Southeast Asia and be listed in the world's prestigious university rankings.
In 2023, Dalat University will enroll full-time students in 41 undergraduate training programs with 2,850 targets. In addition to the admission methods based on high school graduation exam results, high school academic results, competency assessment test scores, and direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2023, the University will expand the direct admission method for candidates who have achieved 3 years of excellent students at high schools nationwide.
