Ninh Binh awakens heritage for sustainable tourism development

Ninh Binh is considered by UNESCO as one of the localities that has been successful in preserving and promoting heritage values for sustainable tourism development. Heritage is not only preserved and protected intact but also increased in value in accordance with the spirit of the 1972 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Thanks to that, Ninh Binh is maintaining its position in the top 15 destinations, 10 provinces attracting the highest number of visitors in the country.
In 2014, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Since then, Ninh Binh has had a methodical strategy to awaken the heritage and develop tourism.
After more than 2 years of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ninh Binh tourism has grown strongly again, Trang An Eco-tourism Area is one of the attractive destinations, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists. Hat Xam - a unique folk performing art form along with art performances and folk songs from 3 regions will be performed at Trang An Festival 2023. On the journey to explore the heritage, visitors can feel the ancient beauty of the special national relic of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. In particular, Hoa Lu Festival is held from the 8th to the 10th of the third lunar month every year, attracting many tourists from all over the world to come and immerse themselves in the unique traditional cultural space. This is also an opportunity for visitors from near and far to learn about the history of the ancient capital with a thousand years of civilization. From the beautiful country of Korea, students of Seoul University visited Ninh Binh and saw with their own eyes the Dragon Bed - a national treasure in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. Water puppetry - a unique and creative folk art form imbued with the traditional features of the rice civilization - is an indispensable activity at the annual Hoa Lu Festival. In May, tourists will have the opportunity to experience and participate in Ninh Binh Tourism Week with the theme "The Golden Color of Tam Coc - Trang An". Tourists will take a boat trip on the Ngo Dong River, admiring the brilliant beauty of Tam Coc rice fields, which has been voted by the travel website Business Insider as one of the 5 most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam and by the Telegraph (UK) as one of the 15 "beautiful but little-known" places. It is worth mentioning that the beauty of Tam Coc rice fields is created by the local community. Foreign tourists and students from the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi conquer the high mountain peak at Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area. Many tourists are very excited to participate in the experience of being a farmer in Tam Coc fields. Cycling to explore the beauty of the countryside has left unforgettable impressions on foreign tourists when visiting Ninh Binh.
In 2022, Ninh Binh province welcomed over 3.7 million visitors, of which 101,000 were international visitors; in the first 6 months of 2023, the whole province is estimated to welcome 4.53 million visitors, 2.5 times higher than the same period last year, of which 224,000 were international visitors. Ninh Binh continues to be rated as a safe and attractive destination by many prestigious travel sites such as TripAdvisor, Telegraph, Business Insider, The Travel, Forbes Magazine... Recently, at the annual award organized by Booking.com to honor global destinations and accommodations, Ninh Binh is the only locality in Vietnam to be in the top 10 friendliest destinations in the world.
