Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/10/2023

Kidneys play a vital role in maintaining health by filtering waste and excess fluid from the blood. Therefore, people suffering from kidney-related health problems such as chronic kidney disease or kidney stones need to pay attention to the foods they eat every day, according to Hindustan Times .

Mr. Karma Ayurveda, a kidney specialist, and Mr. Naveen Arya, a gastroenterologist in India, have suggested some foods that kidney patients should limit.

People with kidney disease should limit eating tomatoes.

Foods containing sodium

Consuming too much salt can increase blood pressure and is bad for the kidneys. People with kidney disease should avoid foods high in sodium, such as canned foods and fast foods.

Instead, they need to eat fresh, whole foods and use herbs and spices to season their food.

Processed meat

Processed meats like sausages, bacon, and cold cuts are high in protein, which can increase waste in the blood and affect kidney health.

Therefore, people with kidney problems should consider protein sources from fish, poultry or plants.

Foods rich in potassium

Potassium is a mineral that can be harmful to people with kidney damage because their bodies have difficulty regulating potassium levels. Potassium-rich foods such as bananas, oranges, and tomatoes should be consumed in moderation. Instead, low-potassium fruits and vegetables such as apples and cauliflower are recommended.

Dairy products

Dairy products contain significant amounts of phosphorus, which can be harmful to people with kidney disease.

Low-phosphorus almond milk can be a good alternative to animal-based dairy products.

Foods rich in oxalates

Oxalates can contribute to kidney stones. Foods high in oxalates include spinach, beets, and some nuts. People with kidney stones should limit their intake of these foods and drink more water.

Carbonated drinks

Soft drinks and carbonated drinks are often high in phosphorus, which can cause kidney problems and increase the risk of kidney stones. So water, herbal tea or fruit juice are healthier alternatives.

However, it is important that patients see their doctor to know exactly what their condition is and what foods they should avoid.
