
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has just issued guidelines for enrollment in kindergartens, grades 1 and 6 for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools must complete issuing enrollment codes to parents before May 31, 2025.
Schools implement the admission method according to the admission route prescribed by the People's Committee of districts, towns and cities; continue to use online admission support software throughout the city.
For secondary schools that enroll students in grade 6 not according to the route (schools recognized by the City People's Committee as high-quality schools; private schools) and have a number of registered students exceeding the quota, the admission method will be implemented based on criteria using learning results, primary school training results or student capacity assessment results in the following forms: question-answer, writing, presentation...
Based on practical conditions, secondary schools report to the Department of Education and Training on their enrollment plans to be submitted to the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities for approval. Districts, towns and cities shall prescribe the form of student capacity assessment (if any) to ensure that enrollment is carried out fairly, objectively, transparently and in accordance with practical conditions.
Admission to private schools without zoning
According to the instructions, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training does not assign enrollment routes to private schools. Depending on the practical conditions of each school, the school develops a reasonable enrollment method in accordance with regulations, reports to the Department of Education and Training to submit to the People's Committee of the district, town, or city for approval; Based on the facilities and staff, teachers, the school proposes the Department of Education and Training to advise the People's Committee of the district, town, or city to approve the enrollment quota for the school;
The Department requires schools to publicly post admission procedures, rights and obligations of students and parents before carrying out admission procedures for students. Schools are absolutely not allowed to enroll students before the time specified by the Department of Education and Training.
Admission to schools under the Department of Education and Training
For kindergartens including: Kindergarten B, Viet Trieu Huu Nghi Kindergarten, Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires enrollment throughout the city according to the Department's targets and plans.
For specialized high schools, enrollment must be conducted according to the correct time and quota, ensuring the following regulations on enrollment subjects:
Special schools with disabled students: Enrollment is carried out throughout the City according to the time and quota of the Department.
Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities : The admission subjects are ethnic minority students whose permanent residence has been at least 36 consecutive months as of the date of application submission in 13 communes and 1 village in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Hanoi, including: Ba Vi district has 07 communes (Khanh Thuong, Ba Vi, Van Hoa, Yen Bai, Tan Linh, Minh Quang, Ba Trai); Thach That district has 3 communes (Tien Xuan, Yen Binh, Yen Trung); Quoc Oai district has 2 communes (Dong Xuan, Phu Man); My Duc district has 1 commune (An Phu); Chuong My district has 1 village in Tran Phu commune (Dong Ke village).
Ethnic minority students with very few people are regulated in Decree No. 57/2017 of the Government regulating preferential admission policies and learning support for preschool children, pupils and students of ethnic minorities with very few people.
Boarding schools for ethnic minorities are allowed to enroll no more than 10% of the total annual enrollment quota of Kinh ethnic students whose parents or guardians have resided for 36 consecutive months or more up to the date of application for enrollment in communes or villages with special difficulties (if any).
In case the number of students belonging to the 3 above-mentioned admission groups is smaller than the size of the Boarding Ethnic High School, in order to create a source of human resource training for ethnic groups in the above-mentioned districts, the Boarding Ethnic High School can enroll more students who are ethnic minorities from poor or near-poor households, and who themselves and their parents or guardians have been residing for 36 consecutive months or more in the above-mentioned areas as of the date of application for admission.
Admission documents for grade 6 include: A valid copy of birth certificate; Primary school transcript or other documents that can replace transcripts; + Legal basis for confirming information about residence; Certificate of priority status issued by a competent authority (if any).
Direct admission to grade 6 of the Boarding Ethnic High School for the following subjects : Very small ethnic minority students; Primary school students who are eligible for admission to the above-mentioned Boarding Ethnic High School and have won prizes at the City level or higher in culture, arts, and sports.
Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary and High School prioritizes recruiting students in Thanh Xuan district to implement universal education in the area.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools to complete issuing Admission Codes to parents of students before May 31, 2025.
Admission time
For secondary schools that enroll students in grade 6 not according to the route and have a number of students registering in excess of the quota, the admission method is implemented based on the criteria of using learning results, primary school training results or student capacity assessment results: If admission is based on the criteria of using capacity assessment results: schools choose a reasonable time for capacity assessment, report to the Department of Education and Training to submit to the People's Committee of the district, town for approval; Complete enrollment no later than July 12, 2025.
For kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools, enrollment is conducted online: Enrollment for grade 1 from July 1 to July 3; Enrollment for 5-year-old children in kindergarten from July 4 to July 6; Enrollment for grade 6 from July 7 to July 9.
Direct enrollment from July 12 to July 18, 2025.
The Department of Education and Training notes that private schools will enroll students immediately after the end of the school year, starting from May 31 to July 12, 2025. Schools will enroll students using a combination of admission and competency testing and assessment: choose a reasonable time for competency testing and assessment to ensure completion by June 30, 2025 at the latest.
In case of online enrollment: The student's parent or guardian can check the enrollment records at the school of enrollment from the time of receiving the successful online enrollment registration notice until 5:00 p.m. on July 18, 2025.
After July 18, 2025, schools that have not yet met their assigned enrollment quotas must report to the Department of Education and Training; based on the situation of each school, the Department of Education and Training and the Department will allow schools to enroll additional students to meet their enrollment quotas from July 21, 2025 to July 22, 2025.
