Son Duong District Party Committee currently has over 10,140 party members, of which over 36% are ethnic minorities. Up to now, Son Duong District Party Committee currently has 25 party committees (01 town, 24 communes) and 457 party cells under the grassroots party committees located in ethnic minority areas. In 2023 and the end of the third quarter of 2024 alone, the District Party Committee has admitted 264/599 party members who are ethnic minorities (accounting for 44%).
Reality shows that in places with a large number of ethnic minorities, exemplary party members will have a positive impact, changing people's awareness and actions, easily arousing people's consensus and trust in the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's policies and laws. Party members in Son Duong have promoted that pioneering spirit.
A typical example is Mr. Trinh Viet Ngoc, Party Cell Secretary and Head of the Front Work Committee of Trung Long village, Trung Yen commune. Being a commune with many difficulties in Son Duong district, in recent times, thanks to the pioneering transformation of crop and livestock structure by party members like him, it has created a spreading force for people in Trung Yen to change their thinking, working methods, be proactive and creative in economic development, contributing to the construction of new rural areas in the locality.
Previously, after learning that growing hybrid tea 1 gave higher yield and quality, he wanted to encourage people to renovate their tea hills. To convince people, Mr. Ngoc pioneered in converting his family's 2 hectares of tea seeds to grow hybrid tea 1, and at the same time, took advantage of the State's support to install and invest in advanced water-saving irrigation systems for the tea hills.
Mr. Ngoc shared that the whole village now has 60 hectares of tea, of which 70% of the tea area has been converted from low-yield seed tea to hybrid tea 1 with higher yield, quality and selling price. The whole village now also has 4 tea factories. This is also the main source of income for many households in the village. Changing production practices helps people increase their income and have the motivation to strive to get rich.
Mr. Trieu Van Doan, a party member of Tan Thuong village, Luong Thien commune, is also one of the typical cores in propagating changes in production thinking, raising awareness and knowledge of people in developing the economy of ethnic minority areas. He is called by the Dao people as "Secretary Director" because he is holding 3 roles: Party Cell Secretary, Head of Tan Thuong village and Director of Tan Thuong Tea Cooperative.
Mr. Doan shared that Tan Thuong village has 79 households, of which the Dao ethnic group accounts for 98%. From 2022 to now, from national target programs; special policies to support socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, people have been supported with 300 million VND to build cultural houses; funds to build 2.6 km of rural roads; 13 clean water tanks; over 700 tons of fertilizer for intensive tea production... However, because the main economic activity of the villagers is forest development and tea cultivation, people's lives still face many difficulties.
Therefore, he always struggles with the problem of what to raise and what to plant to help people escape poverty. Mr. Doan realized that more than 11 hectares of tea in the village always yielded good yields, but the economic efficiency was not high. In April 2022, Mr. Doan discussed with a number of tea growers in the village, established Tan Thuong Tea Cooperative, invested in tea production and processing machinery, thereby building and promoting the Tan Thuong tea brand.
Mr. Doan has encouraged members of the cooperative to learn and change the way of taking care of organic tea trees, to be environmentally friendly and to increase their value. Currently, more than 10 hectares of tea of 24 cooperative member households meet VietGap standards. Tea products of Tan Thuong Tea Cooperative have met 3-star OCOP standards. On average, the annual revenue from tea trees in the entire cooperative reaches 650 million VND - 700 million VND; members of the cooperative earn over 30 million VND/year.
Taking on three roles as Director, Party Cell Secretary, and Village Chief, Mr. Doan has helped people change their production mindset from small-scale, fragmented production to concentrated, linked production, creating brands and stable output for local products. Thanks to his dynamism, daring to pioneer, and proactiveness in "talking and doing", Mr. Doan has always been trusted and supported by the people, and the movements and common activities of the village have become more favorable and positive. With these contributions, Mr. Doan has recently been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ethnic Committee for his outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic work and ethnic policies.
Through many practical and meaningful actions, party members in Son Duong have affirmed their core role in all areas of social life in ethnic minority areas. The exemplary leading spirit of party members in Son Duong in recent times has encouraged and promoted emulation movements among the masses. People have learned and followed the spirit of party members devoting themselves to the collective interests, enthusiastically building new rural areas and developing the economy, building a prosperous life.
