Meaningful works on borders and islands

The fund “For Beloved Truong Sa - For the Frontline of the Fatherland” was launched by Ho Chi Minh City in 2009. Over the past 15 years, the fund has received hundreds of billions of VND in support. Thanks to this source of funding, the city has organized many practical programs and activities to support compatriots and soldiers, helping them feel secure in maintaining the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.

Turn small actions into big movements

The representative of the Organizing Committee of the Program “Joining hands to light up DK1 platform” and the Program “Contributing stones to build Truong Sa” shared that, starting from a reporter’s working trip to the platform, witnessing the shortage, especially the lack of electricity for lighting, the soldiers still worked steadfastly, overcoming difficulties to protect the continental shelf. These touching images were published in the press, attracting the attention and sharing of all classes of people. Immediately after that, the Organizing Committee launched the program and received enthusiastic support and contributions from the whole country. In just a short time, DK1 platform had electricity.

The program “Contribute stones to build Truong Sa” started with an emotional story, that is, at the Journey to the islands in 2011, a student from the Central Pedagogical College of Ho Chi Minh City when going to Truong Sa, in his luggage he brought a handful of soil and the student dropped the soil on the island. When asked about the meaning of this action, the student said that everyone can contribute something to Truong Sa and he brought the handful of soil to help beautify Truong Sa. This image and idea were also posted on the media. The next day, the Organizing Committee decided to launch the program “Contribute stones to build Truong Sa”. The program received positive responses from millions of people at home and abroad. As a result, two projects were built on Da Tay A island and Da Tay C island. Then, together with Hospital 175, they built the Truong Sa town Medical Center. "We consider these projects as works of the people's hearts towards the sea and islands" - said a representative of the program's organizing committee.

Spread good deeds

15 years since the establishment of the Fund "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland", Ho Chi Minh City has implemented many practical activities towards the borders and islands of the Fatherland such as: Journey "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland" with the theme "Towards DK1 Platform"; Program "Armed forces come to relics, scenic spots and people of Ho Chi Minh City"; Activities "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland" at the district level...

In particular, since 2013, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee in coordination with the City Television Station organized the first art exchange program "Towards the borders, seas and islands of the Fatherland" and collected over 25 billion VND in registered donations. Statistics from 2013 to 2024 show that through the program, the Fund "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland" has received over 515 billion VND and spent over 470 billion VND.

According to Rear Admiral Pham Van Quang - Deputy Chief of Political Department of the Navy, over the years, the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City have always warmed the hearts of every officer and soldier on the front line of the Fatherland with concrete actions. The movement "For the homeland's sea and islands - For the front line of the Fatherland" is a widespread mass movement, directly contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of all people, joining hands to protect the eternal existence of our borders and seas and islands.

In that support, we must mention practical projects such as: building the headquarters of Truong Sa, the District Medical Center, the infirmaries of Nam Yet Island, the multi-purpose cultural houses of Da Nam Island, Thuyen Chai Island, supporting the construction of boats... Especially recently, responding to the Prime Minister's call to plant 1 billion trees and aiming to reduce emissions to a minimum, Ho Chi Minh City is also the leading unit in supporting the program "For a green Truong Sa", so that Truong Sa will soon become a socio-economic center at sea, a solid fortress, protecting the sovereignty of the beloved sea and islands of the Fatherland.

"It is from that great support that Navy officers and soldiers and the people on the front line of the Fatherland have had more favorable conditions in their lives and work to improve the quality and efficiency of their activities, and to protect our seas and islands more firmly" - Rear Admiral Pham Van Quang emphasized.
