This morning, March 27, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province held the opening ceremony of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025. Representatives of leaders of departments, branches, and sectors; teachers and hundreds of students of Le Loi High School, Dong Ha City attended.

Throughout history, books have always played an important role, not only as a treasure trove of knowledge and cultural quintessence but also as a lamp to illuminate the mind and nourish the soul. Reading has therefore become an essential need, helping each individual to constantly improve themselves, develop and contribute positively to the progress of society. Recognizing the importance of reading culture, on February 24, 2014, the Prime Minister decided to choose April 21 every year as Vietnam Book Day to encourage the development of the reading movement in the community.

This year is the 10th year that Quang Tri province has organized the Book and Reading Culture Day. Over the past time, activities in response to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day have been organized by Quang Tri province in a practical manner, contributing to the development of reading culture and building reading habits among the people.

In particular, this movement has spread strongly to young people and people in rural, remote and isolated areas, helping them access knowledge and improve their lives. Through organizing activities on Book and Reading Culture Day, more than 30,000 books have been donated to schools; maintaining reading culture institutions, constantly nurturing and developing inspirational factors through the Reading Culture Ambassador contest; organizing the introduction of the book "Quang Tri Gazetteer", the unique book of Asian record and world record "The Legend of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel (81 days and nights of fiery summer - 1972); the launching ceremony of the program "Books and Reading Culture in the highland border"; the contest of displaying documents, arranging art book models with the theme "Joining hands to build a peaceful world"; the story-telling contest based on books with the theme "We love peace".

Regularly coordinate with agencies and units to donate more than 17,000 books to build 31 bookcases in remote areas. In addition, organized seminars on "Books and Life", "Reading for self-study in the digital age"; "What to do to create a reading habit in the community"; "Guide to fast reading techniques"...

Through these activities, a growing community of book lovers in Quang Tri province has been gradually built.

In order for reading culture to truly develop strongly in the community, at the opening ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Minh Tuan requested leaders at all levels, sectors and localities to proactively develop plans to organize activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in a creative and effective manner.

Thereby spreading the message of reading culture to all classes of people in a deep and wide way. Schools, teachers and parents should work together to create an ideal environment for reading. Encourage reading habits in every family, school, agency and organization.

At the same time, honor and promote typical examples and outstanding contributions in the effort to build a civilized and developed reading community.

On this occasion, 3 collectives and 3 individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements, contributing to the development of reading culture in the province.

To spread the reading culture, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and publishing establishments donated books to 3 schools; the Rural Book Program of Quang Tri province donated books to 5 schools with a total of over 2,000 books of various genres for students of all levels.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of the School Council, FPT University, had a sharing session, inspiring with real stories, profound perspectives on the value of books and reading culture in the new era.

Following this ceremony, activities for Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Quang Tri province in 2025 will be deployed throughout the province in forms such as: mobile trips bringing reading culture to all regions, the "Reading Culture Ambassador" contest, the "Precious Books for Friends" movement... to contribute to spreading reading culture in the community.
