70 km from the center of Hanoi and 30 km from Hai Duong city, Chi Lang Nam Stork Island is located on An Duong lake in Chi Lang Nam commune, Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong province.
The island is 69.2 hectares wide and is home to about 18,000 storks and 8,000 herons. Stork Island is a unique and rich ecosystem of flora and fauna with more than 170 species, including typical storks such as white storks, red storks, flycatchers, egrets, ibises, and herons such as grey storks and green herons.
In addition to storks and herons, the islands are home to many bird species such as ibis, mallards, teals, and teals. There are species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and at risk of extinction that exist on Stork Island, such as pelicans, black cormorants, and swallows.
According to the tour guide, the locals here pass down the story of the formation of the Stork Island. In the past, this place was a reed area, in the middle of the field there was a high mound. On top of the mound there was a very sacred temple.
In the early 15th century, a great flood caused the dike around the village to break into three sections, flooding the area. Around the high mounds of land, giant whirlpools emerged.
After three major floods, the temple on top of the hill collapsed and was swept away, at the same time forming a large lake that was always full of water called An Duong Lake with a water surface area of more than 90,000 m2.
In the middle of the lake, there is still a mound of land, forming today's Chi Lang Nam Stork Island, including Island 3A (with an area of 4,505 m2) and Island 3B (7,140 m2). An Duong Lake is home to many species of fish, shrimp and aquatic creatures such as otters, soft-shell turtles... According to scientists, this is a nature reserve with a large level of biodiversity, preserved almost intact in the north of our country.

Visiting Chi Lang Nam Stork Island on An Duong Lake, visitors can take a large boat with a large group and a swan boat for individual guests. Going downstream, you can watch birds and fish in the peaceful, airy natural landscape with large and small bamboo bushes, where storks and herons live.
In the vast space of water, visitors relax and watch flocks of white storks flying across the sky, bustling from branch to branch, and follow the storks' wings tilting over the lake. On the bamboo branches and treetops are the perches and homes of storks and herons. Flocks of storks gather close together, nesting in dense density. The most bustling moment is when the sun sets, flocks of storks and herons from all directions fly back to their nests.
According to their habits, storks fly out to find food in the morning and herons go out to find food at night. When the herons fly out to find food, the storks tilt their wings and return to their nests to rest. The sound of the song change is extremely impressive, stirring and bustling across the lake. It is known that the people here are conscious of protecting the environment and nature, so the storks and herons are very close to humans. Storks and herons nest, breed and live all year round, making their numbers increasingly crowded.
In 2014, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized Chi Lang Nam Stork Island as a National Scenic Monument. After 10 years, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province issued a decision to recognize the National Scenic Monument of Stork Island as a provincial-level tourist area. In the Project for Developing High-Quality Tourism in Hai Duong province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province has identified the Stork Island Eco-tourism Area in Chi Lang Nam commune as one of the eight typical tourism products of the province.
