In Yen Chau, one of the mountainous and border districts with difficulties in Son La province, the rate of poor and near-poor households is still quite high. According to the results of the review in the period of 2021-2025, there are 1,168 poor and near-poor households in the area facing difficulties in housing and needing to repair or rebuild, needing the attention and support of the State and the community to join hands to help.
To achieve the goal of eliminating 100% of housing for poor households in the area, the Party Committee, the government, and the Fatherland Front Committee of Yen Chau district have focused on mobilizing maximum resources to join hands, helping households in difficult circumstances to ensure housing conditions; reviewing, surveying, making lists, and supporting funding to eliminate temporary houses, ensuring the right subjects and suitability.
In localities, the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have promoted their core role in mobilizing communities, units and individuals to support the "For the Poor" Fund to focus on prioritizing support for poor households living in remote areas, especially difficult areas, or those with prolonged illness, the heads of households being elderly and single women to build new, more spacious and solid housing. With the drastic participation of the entire political system, in May, Yen Chau district announced the completion of the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, reaching the target 1 year ahead of schedule.
The district has supported the construction of 1,000 new houses and the repair of more than 100 houses, with a total cost of more than 38 billion VND, of which the socialized funding from agencies and units is more than 13 billion VND, and people's contributions of money and working days are more than 25 billion VND.
Along with Yen Chau, at the end of April 2024, Phu Yen was also one of 10 districts and cities in Son La province to announce the completion of the work of eliminating temporary houses in the 2021-2025 period. The entire district has completed the support of eliminating 564 temporary houses for poor households. Of which, 474 houses were newly built, and 90 houses were repaired to ensure that they met the "3 hard" criteria. The total amount of money mobilized and construction materials converted to cash was more than 20 billion VND, of which local people contributed more than 5 billion VND.
After more than 3 years of implementing the Project "Mobilizing resources to support poor households with housing difficulties, phase 2021 - 2025", thousands of solid and spacious houses have been built. Mr. Vi Duc Tho - Chairman of the Son La Provincial Fatherland Front Committee affirmed that the support and assistance for thousands of poor, near-poor households, and families with special housing difficulties in the province to renovate and repair their houses shows the great efforts and determination of the Party Committee, the government, the active participation of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, and the community. Each new house completed means that there will be one more poor household with stable housing, thereby feeling secure in working and rising out of poverty.
According to statistics, up to now, Son La province has supported over 8,400 households to eliminate temporary houses with a total cost of over 340 billion VND. 10/12 districts and cities have completed the task of eliminating temporary houses for poor households and households facing housing difficulties in the period of 2021-2025.
To complete the set goal by 2025, Son La will eliminate 100% of temporary houses for poor households, Mr. Vi Duc Tho said that currently, the Party Committee and authorities from the province to the grassroots have coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organizations to proactively and carefully review the response capacity and resources of each family to have a specific support plan. With the highest determination, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels is focusing on promoting propaganda work, mobilizing maximum resources from organizations and individuals to support the "For the Poor" Fund, thereby spreading the spirit of helping the poor, striving to complete the elimination of temporary houses for the two districts of Thuan Chau and Mai Son on schedule as set out in the Project.
