During the final stages of the holiday (from February 1 to February 7, 2025), the booking rate for flights from local areas back to Ho Chi Minh City was high, reflecting the characteristics of air transport activities as every year. Some days were full with a rate of over 90% to 100% such as from Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, Buon Ma Thuot to Ho Chi Minh City.

The "head-off" nature of air transport

On domestic flights during the 2025 Lunar New Year, ticket prices also have differences. Before the holiday, The price of flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities is currently higher than the price of the return flight . Surveying ticket price data (including taxes and fees) for economy class on January 21, 2025 (ie December 22 of the Lunar calendar), the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi - the route with the highest frequency and the largest number of passengers, the ticket price offered by Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways is about 3.7 million VND. On the other hand, airlines still have low ticket prices, similar to the previous days.

At the end of the holiday, the ticket price reversed with a higher price appearing on the flight from the local area to Ho Chi Minh City. Surveying ticket prices on February 2, 2025 (the last day of the holiday), the flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines' ticket price was 3.7 million VND.

It can be seen that ticket prices show similarities with the booking rate on domestic flights during the Lunar New Year period.

Accordingly, flights from the South to the North will have higher booking rates and ticket prices than flights from the North to the South at the beginning of the holiday. At the same time, this will be reversed at the end of the holiday.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, this is a characteristic that can be seen on flights between major cities (Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi) and localities across the country, reflecting the "head-to-head" nature of air transport exploitation that is formed every Lunar New Year or long holidays during the year.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said it will continue to monitor market developments to direct and coordinate with airlines and airports to add flights on routes with high traffic volume. Thereby, contributing to regulating airfares, meeting and serving the travel needs of passengers during the upcoming Lunar New Year peak.
