On November 7, at the seminar and conference on Japan Incentive Tourism held in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism - said that according to statistics, the total number of visitors from the land of the rising sun to Ho Chi Minh City will reach more than 241,000 in 2023 and 219,000 in the first 8 months of 2024.
Japan has always been an important market and is consistently in the top 6 of the leading international tourist markets to Ho Chi Minh City. This increase not only reflects the city’s strong attraction to Japanese tourists, but also affirms the potential for solid development in the tourism cooperation relationship between the two sides.
"On the other hand, Japan is one of the top favorite destinations for Vietnamese tourists, with attractive sights, unique culture and history," Ms. Hoa emphasized.
Ms. Matsumoto, chief representative of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam, said that one of the characteristics of the Vietnamese market is that incentive trips for employees are very popular, considered part of corporate welfare programs.
The number of visitors to Japan from Vietnam in 2023 has surpassed the pre-COVID-19 level, reaching approximately 570,000. Since the beginning of this year, the cumulative number of visitors from January to September has reached 479,800, and with the current growth rate, this figure is expected to surpass last year's figure, reaching an all-time high.
"Currently, in the incentive tourism sector, Vietnamese tourists account for about 15% of the total number of visitors to Japan, making this a notable form of tourism. The JNTO Vietnam Office plans to focus on incentive tourism with the aim of "increasing consumption" and "promoting tourist attraction to Japanese localities," said Ms. Matsumoto.
This year’s Japan Incentive Travel Seminar and Talk attracted 24 vendors from various tourism sectors such as convention centers, hotels and travel agencies from all over Japan. On the Vietnamese side, 31 travel agencies attended.
On November 7, there were 8 talks between businesses of the two countries to carry out tourism market connection activities, as well as to better understand Japan Incentive Tourism.
Representatives of the tourism industry of both sides affirmed that they will continue to promote the exchange of visitors between the two countries through festival events, cultural exchanges, as well as tourism promotion programs.
