"Kami Rita reached the summit this morning. He has now set a new record of 29 climbs of Mount Everest," said a representative of the organizer of the Seven Summit Treks mountain climbing trip.

A mountain guide for more than 20 years, Sherpa, 54, first climbed the 8,849-meter-high Mount Everest in 1994 while working for a commercial expedition. He previously said he was "just doing my job" and had no intention of setting a record.
Besides Everest, Sherpa has also conquered other challenging 8,000-meter peaks, including the world's second highest mountain - K2 in Pakistan.
This spring climbing season (which runs from early April to early June), Nepal has issued 414 permits to climb Everest. Most of those hoping to conquer Everest are accompanied by Nepalese guides, meaning more than 800 climbers will attempt to scale the world's highest peak in the coming weeks.
This year, China also reopened the Tibet route to Mount Everest to foreigners for the first time since it was closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nepal is home to eight of the world's 10 highest peaks and welcomes hundreds of explorers every spring when temperatures are warm and winds are usually calm.
In 1953, explorer Edmund Hillary and guide Tenzing Norgay became the first two people to climb Everest and return safely, ushering in a boom in mountaineering.
Last year, more than 600 climbers reached the summit of Everest, but it was also the deadliest season with 18 deaths.
