Per capita, each Vietnamese person eats noodles 85 times a year - leading the world in terms of consumption of this food, according to WINA.

According to the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), in the past 3 years (2020 to present), Vietnam has always been ranked in the top 3 countries with the highest total instant noodle consumption in the world.

In a recent assessment report, WINA said that although it ranks third in terms of consumption (after China and Indonesia), in terms of the number of times each Vietnamese person eats noodles per year, it leads the world.

Last year, Vietnam consumed nearly 8.5 billion packets, an increase of more than 57% compared to 2019. Per capita, the average Vietnamese person eats instant noodles 85 times (servings) per year, meaning they eat one serving of instant noodles every 4 days. Next are South Korea and Thailand, where they eat one serving of instant noodles on average every week (7 days).

Vietnamese people have increased their consumption of instant noodles, according to WINA, due to the impact of Covid-19, which has caused consumers to use them more because they are convenient. In addition, the increasingly diverse range of instant noodle products gives consumers more choices. During the development process, instant noodle manufacturing companies have successfully combined the culinary cultures of many different regions around the world, so they are popular.

In Vietnam, instant noodle manufacturers are achieving more and more success as the consumption of this product has been increasing for three consecutive years. In terms of market share, Acecook and Masan are the two leading companies in the instant noodle market, accounting for a total of 33%, according to Euromonitor - one of the world's leading market research firms, headquartered in the UK.

Accordingly, in terms of total revenue or consumption output, Acecook said that in 2022 they sold 3.3 billion noodle packages to the Vietnamese market. Of which, Masan did not publish detailed data on each product group, but the 2021 annual report said that this enterprise has 5 brands with revenue of over 2,000 billion VND, of which 2 are instant noodle brands.

For Asia Foods, the total revenue of this group reached over VND5,000 billion per year in the period 2017-2021. Similarly, Uniben has maintained a continuous growth rate in the past 5 years. In 2021, the revenue of this manufacturer reached over VND3,400 billion, an increase of more than 12% compared to 2020.

Mr. Kaneda Hiroki - General Director of Acecook Vietnam said that the instant noodle market in Vietnam is still very attractive. Vietnam is a very special country in terms of instant noodle consumption, rising to the leading position in terms of annual consumption per person. Therefore, in the first 6 months of the year, the company's instant noodle consumption output increased by 10% compared to the same period.

"This year, we aim for the Vietnamese market to consume 3.5 billion packages, an increase of 6% compared to 2022," said Mr. Kaneda Hiroki.

The CEO of this company also said that Vietnamese people are eating more and more rice - which accounts for nearly two-thirds of total food production, so the company is diversifying its rice-based products, of which fresh vermicelli is a newly launched product but is being favored by consumers.

Survey and world noodle consumption are annually compiled by WINA in 56 countries and territories that use instant noodles.
