He has made many important contributions to the cause of training human resources in foreign communication and culture for the Diplomatic Academy and the country.

From a soldier with the spirit of serving the country

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh was formerly the Minister Counselor, Second Person of the Vietnamese Embassy in Norway, former Head of the Department of International Communication and Foreign Culture, Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a diplomat or a teacher, with his enthusiasm and dedication, he left deep impressions in the hearts of generations of students and colleagues.

In a special music night called “Let’s sing the song of life” organized by teachers and students of the Faculty of Communication and Foreign Culture, Diplomatic Academy, earlier this year, 12 songs, including 10 songs written by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh, were performed, telling stories about the life of a soldier and a teacher of cultural diplomacy. This was also an opportunity for colleagues and generations of students to pay tribute to the contributions to the diplomatic and educational career of teacher Le Thanh Binh.

During the music night, Colonel Vu Ngoc Dieu, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, also a military friend of teacher Le Thanh Binh, expressed: "The style and bravery of Uncle Ho's soldiers and the flexibility and quickness with technology and combat of air defense - air force soldiers are always deeply imbued in the souls of former soldiers like scientists and diplomats Le Thanh Binh today."

Colonel Vu Ngoc Dieu proudly said: After the war, meeting soldiers like Binh and other brothers in the Soviet Union, who were students at that time, or today they are in different positions, I still see in them the consistency in good qualities, the steadfast will to complete all tasks and serve the country with all their heart.

Before working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh served in the heroic Air Defense - Air Force. He was then sent to the Soviet Union to study Journalism and Communications, and successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MGU).

Over 9 years of studying from bachelor's to doctoral level at MGU, he has absorbed both the theory and practice of journalism and the kindness of teachers, friends and people of the land of the White Birch.

Mr. Le Thanh Binh returned to his homeland and worked in many state agencies, holding various professional positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Office, universities, academies..., participating in activities in many fields: Culture, sports, tourism, diplomacy, journalism... He has worked hard to research and published many books and scientific works on international communications, promoting the image of the country and Vietnamese people to the world.

To the cultural diplomat and dedicated teacher to many generations of students

In 2008, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh became a pioneer in opening the way for training in international communications and cultural diplomacy - a field that was still new to domestic training institutions at that time, when he took on the role of the first Dean of the Faculty of Communications and Foreign Cultural Affairs, Diplomatic Academy.

Taking on the mission of training core human resources for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the field of international communications and cultural diplomacy, educator and diplomat Le Thanh Binh has approached “cultural diplomacy” as a scientific field. During his research and teaching, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh has always been creative in his approach, applying a systemic perspective, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary methodologies to approach issues of journalism, international communications and cultural diplomacy. This is also the multi-purpose “key” to help promote the values ​​of cultural diplomacy and bring this field of study to the international level, creating a unique position in training high-quality human resources for the country.

Up to now, after 18 years of establishment and development, the Faculty of Communication and Foreign Cultural Affairs has become a prestigious brand in training international communication and cultural diplomacy in Vietnam. The first generations of students and associates of the Faculty have all grown up and become skilled and skilled cadres to effectively carry out cultural diplomacy - an important tool to demonstrate the soft power of each country.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh is respected by many colleagues for his ability to work with quality and efficiency with a large volume of work. He is also a great researcher on communication and foreign culture. Up to now, he has written and published nearly 30 different books on textbooks on International Communication, Foreign Communication, specialized books on the application of Cultural Diplomacy, Mass Communication and Social Development, etc.

No matter what position he holds, this respected teacher always uses his pure heart and special enthusiasm to work and treat people around him. Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh always believes that when working, "the heart must be upright, the intention must be sincere, the will must be steadfast, the actions must be careful, plus knowledge and responsibility". According to Mr. Le Thanh Binh, "when doing something, you must put your heart into it", because he always remembers Uncle Ho's advice: "Real strength is the gong and diplomacy is the sound. The louder the gong, the louder the sound".

Talking about his journey as a teacher, Mr. Le Thanh Binh shared: "Diplomats in general and teachers of diplomacy in particular, including cultural diplomacy, must have good expertise, good qualities, understanding of working methods, love the profession, and be dedicated to the profession to awaken the passion and potential of students."

The talented and romantic teacher

With his love and passion for traditional martial arts, although he has been retired for several years, in early June, martial arts master Le Thanh Binh and his students opened the "Vietnam Lien Hoa Le Gia Phai" martial arts school at several locations, with the desire to preserve, conserve and promote, spreading the value of martial arts and the quintessence of traditional martial arts culture to the younger generation.

Martial arts master Le Thanh Binh said that the first simple thing that the sect aims for is the spirit of martial arts - learning martial arts to aim for cultural ethics, human ethics. When practicing martial arts, people not only learn how to defend themselves, but also learn how to cultivate discipline and perseverance, and train themselves comprehensively both physically and mentally. That is the martial arts spirit of our nation, and is a continuation of the reminder that President Ho Chi Minh taught during his lifetime: "Practicing physical exercise and improving health is the duty of every patriotic citizen".

And it is also very interesting that recently, the poetry collection "Three clouds and mountains" by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh (Vietnamese-English bilingual poetry, published by the Writers' Association Publishing House in 2022) was translated into Italian by female writer Giovanna Ciraci, introduced to Italian readers and will be sent to Vietnam at the end of November 2024.

He has had 8 bilingual Vietnamese-English poetry collections published by Literature Publishing House and Writers Association Publishing House.

The poetry collection "Blue Bird, Blue Sky Song" (Vietnamese-English bilingual poetry) which he completed in early 2024 was also printed and released by Ukiyoto Canada in June 2024.

It can be seen in Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh is a harmonious and diverse convergence, from the image of a veteran diplomat, to the portrait of a teacher, researcher with extensive teaching experience, and now the image of a talented artist, a martial arts master, creating an admirable and precious personality.
