Video: Interview with Ford Ranger XLS owner from the most authentic perspective.
The Ford Ranger pickup truck has long established itself as the best-selling pickup truck in the Vietnamese market, and the XLS version is the company's main choice.
Today, Knowledge & Life newspaper will bring you an interesting story: Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, a customer, decided to sell his 5-seat high-chassis SUV after less than 5 months of use, to switch to owning a new generation Ford Ranger XLS .

The Ford Ranger XLS pickup truck is considered the 'golden goose' of the American car brand in the Vietnamese market. |
So what made him make this bold decision? What special features does the Ford Ranger XLS have to convince a user who is already familiar with a high-chassis tourist vehicle? Let's explore with us in the following interview!
PV: Thanh has had the opportunity to experience at least 2 different car models and Ranger is the 3rd car, the most recent is the Mitsubishi Xforce, a 5-seat high-chassis CUV. So when you switched to the Ford Ranger, how did you feel?
Owner: When switching to the Ford Ranger XLS , I found that this pickup truck offers a completely different experience compared to the previous model, the Mitsubishi Xforce, especially when traveling long distances. Compared to compact, convenient city cars, the Ranger has more space, operates stably on the highway, and is suitable because it has a rear box to carry goods when traveling to the province.
Choosing the Ranger not only serves my work but also meets my personal travel needs. Although I was hesitant between an SUV and a pickup truck, in the end, the convenience factor when traveling long distances and the ability to carry goods made me decide to switch to the Ford Ranger.

Ford Ranger XLS is considered a pickup truck that offers a completely different experience compared to other models in the same segment. |
In fact, the previous Xforce 5-seat high-chassis models I owned were compact, flexible, and easier to find parking in the city. However, for someone who often travels to the provinces, has to travel 3 to 5 days a week and sometimes needs to carry more goods, a pickup truck is definitely more suitable.
Owner: Regarding the interior, I find everything to be adequate, not too high-end but there is nothing to complain about in this price range. The materials and layout of the cockpit are reasonable, comfortable enough for daily use.
PV: What about space and visibility when driving?
Owner: After driving A and B class cars, I really feel the difference when switching to Ranger. The high seating position helps to have a much better view, and the driving feeling is also more relaxed. Sitting in the car is very comfortable, the space is spacious and not cramped like previous small cars.
PV: If compared with Toyota Hilux or other competitors like Triton in the same price range, what do you think is the most outstanding point of Ranger?

For someone who often travels to the provinces, has to travel 3 to 5 days a week and sometimes needs to carry more goods, a pickup truck like the Ford Ranger will definitely be suitable. |
Owner: One thing I really like about the Ranger is the electric power steering system. This makes driving in the city much easier than competitors using hydraulic power steering like the Hilux or Triton in the same price range. I don't have to strain my arms when steering, making moving in the city much more comfortable.
PV: What about the fuel consumption of the Ford Ranger XLS?
Owner: When driving in the city, the Ranger consumes about 10-11 liters/100 km, and when driving on the highway, it only consumes about 7-8 liters/100 km. For a car weighing more than 2 tons, I think this consumption level is quite impressive. Moreover, because it runs on a diesel engine, fuel costs are also much more economical than gasoline cars.
PV: When moving around the city, did Thanh have any difficulty with the size of the Ford Ranger? After all, this is a pickup truck with a length of more than 5.3 meters, much larger than the Hatchback and small SUV models that Thanh previously owned.

Besides, with the nature of Thanh’s work, often traveling, stopping by markets and stores to market and transport samples, does a pickup truck make things more convenient or does it sometimes cause certain inconveniences in the city? For example, when needing to stop quickly in narrow areas, or having to enter and exit parking lots with limited space?
Owner: In general, the most important thing is still adaptation. Before, when driving a small car, moving around the city, weaving through traffic or finding parking spaces was much easier for me. But when switching to a large pickup truck like the Ford Ranger XLS, it is clear that I also have to get used to and adapt to new conditions. In fact, anything can become a habit, and after driving for a long time, it will become normal.
The proof is that you can see why there are drivers who drive 45-50 seater vehicles into the city to pick up tourists and still manage? That is because they are familiar with their vehicles, because when they master the vehicle, everything becomes much easier.

Ranger XLS diesel version also saves fuel costs compared to gasoline vehicles. |
Many people who buy Ranger XLS also equip it with a front camera and a 360-degree camera to assist when driving into the city or small alleys, because they are worried about not being familiar with the car and having difficulty keeping track of the road. But in reality, once you get used to it, keeping track of the road, reversing or maneuvering in a narrow space is just a simple matter, nothing too difficult.
Even when I am used to a large car like this, if I go back to driving a class A car, it might feel like I am driving a toy car! After having experience with a pickup truck, if I want to change cars, I will probably have to upgrade to a tall 7-seat SUV, because going back to a small car is a bit uncomfortable.
The most important thing is the driving feeling. Driving in the city can be a bit difficult, but when driving long distances, the value of a high-chassis car is clearly seen. Clear vision, spacious space, driving hundreds of kilometers without feeling tired.
PV: Many people praise the Ford Ranger for being "pleasant to drive", but there are also opinions that the car is prone to minor problems. During use, have you ever encountered any problems or technical errors? If so, what were the errors, and were you satisfied with the way the company handled them?
Owner: The car I bought is a 2025 model, still very new, with only 3,000 km on the clock. I don't know if it's because the mileage is low or not, but up to now, my car has not encountered any problems.

Overall, the Ranger offers a good experience, from price, driving feel to chassis platform. When driving on the highway, the car feels very solid... |
Everything works very smoothly and I am very satisfied. The car runs smoothly, there are no unusual signs that I need to worry about. Even in terms of maintenance, I have not had to go to the dealer to change the oil, because the engine oil of this car has a change cycle of up to 10,000 km. So, basically, the car is still in good condition, there is nothing to worry about.
PV: People often say: "If you drive a Ford, it's hard to switch to another brand, unless it's a German car!" As someone who has experienced two generations of Japanese cars, do you think this is true?
Owner: Once you have bought a Ford, it is really difficult to choose another brand like Japanese or Korean cars, especially when considering the same segment and price range. Before buying this car, I also researched very carefully, test drove many different models such as Mitsubishi Triton GLX, Toyota Hilux 4x2... but in the end still chose Ford because its driving feeling is the most suitable for me.
Overall, the car offers a very good experience, from the price, driving feeling to the chassis platform. When driving on the highway, the car feels very solid, not floating or having the feeling of 'flying' like some other models. Going over potholes or bad roads, the car's suspension system works very well, making the car significantly smoother than some other pickup models. For example, when driving my previous Xforce, the car made a rattling sound when going over bumps, but with the Ford, the feeling is very different, very solid.

The design of the Ford Ranger pickup truck not only focuses on cargo carrying capacity but also on convenience in daily travel. |
Despite being a pickup truck with a rear leaf spring suspension, the ride is not too bumpy when not carrying any cargo. Of course, there is a bouncing feeling, but not to the point of being uncomfortable – still very good for daily use as a passenger car.
It is clear that the Ford Ranger has changed its suspension system, not just a pickup truck for cargo purposes but also aimed at urban users. While other pickup models in the same segment still focus on practicality, high ground clearance and stiff suspension to serve difficult roads, the Ranger has a better balance between urban flexibility, smooth driving feeling and stable operation.
My wife didn’t like pickup trucks at first, thinking that the back seat would be cramped because most of the space was for the cargo bed. But once inside, it was more comfortable and spacious than she had imagined. This proves that the Ranger’s design is not only aimed at cargo capacity but also at convenience in daily travel.
PV: Thank you for accepting the interview with Knowledge & Life newspaper. We wish you good health, peace, and steady steering!
