On July 2, information from Thanh Son District Medical Center (Phu Tho) said that recently, this unit received a patient with parasitic worms all over his body.
Accordingly, patient N (Dich Qua commune - Thanh Son) was taken to the hospital by his family for examination due to pain in the lumbar region spreading to the right accompanied by painful urination.
Here, after taking an abdominal CT scan, doctors discovered dilated right renal pelvis and ureter due to middle third ureteral stones, bilateral kidney stones, gallbladder stones, and right inguinal hernia. In particular, through imaging diagnosis, doctors also discovered tapeworm larvae scattered throughout the body, 3-5 mm in diameter.

According to doctors, this is a case of a patient who came for a health check and discovered that he had pork tapeworm larvae in his body, due to his daily eating habits not ensuring food hygiene and safety. It is known that the patient often has the habit of eating raw, undercooked foods such as: fish salad, blood pudding, nem chao, rare meat...
Currently, the patient continues to be treated and monitored at the Department of General Surgery, and his health has temporarily stabilized.
BSCKI. Dinh Dai Lam, Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging - Functional Testing, said that brain flukes are one of the dangerous pathogens for humans. Brain flukes cause nervous system symptoms such as: fever, headache, dizziness, convulsions with foaming at the mouth, memory loss, paralysis of the VII nerve, hemiplegia...
In addition, it affects a series of other organ systems in the body such as: diarrhea, itchy rashes on the body, lumps under the skin, and can cause blindness due to larvae nesting in the fundus of the eye.
Experts say that parasitic diseases often develop silently. Many patients only go to the doctor when they feel weak or have seizures, and are even misdiagnosed with epilepsy or stroke. When they go to a specialist to treat parasitic diseases, the worms have attacked the brain, causing the patient to suffer from long-term sequelae.
The main cause of infection with tapeworm larvae is through unsanitary food, especially the habit of eating raw or undercooked foods such as blood pudding, nem chao, rare meat...
Many people believe that when eating raw food or blood pudding, squeezing lemon juice will kill parasitic worms. This concept is completely wrong because lemon juice does not have that effect. When the larvae infect the intestines, they will develop into worms, enter the blood, and gradually damage organs, typically nesting in the brain.
Therefore, to prevent parasitic infection, experts warn against eating raw blood pudding, which contains many pathogens that cause diarrhea, cholera, streptococcus, and parasitic larval infection. You need to eat cooked food and drink boiled water, wash your hands before eating; raw vegetables and fruits must be washed under running water and soaked in antiseptic water before eating.
Adults and children need to deworm periodically every 6 months to a year to prevent parasitic worms in the body, causing many health consequences.
