Hai Phong City People's Committee is studying and establishing an investment policy for a project to renovate Do Son tourist area in the area where there is an abandoned ministry-run motel.
This task was assigned by the Hai Phong City People's Committee to the Do Son District People's Committee and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and reported back in June, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Chief of Office of the City People's Committee informed.
The two areas planned to be renovated include the section from 15/5 Square to the land of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the section from the parking lot of Do Son area 2 to the end of the road through Vung Czech (near K15 station). These two areas have many motels and hotels of ministries and branches that have been degraded and even abandoned for many years.
Mr. Tu said that the City Chairman has signed a document to send to ministries and branches requesting coordination in handling the current land use situation in Do Son. Currently, the Ministry of Construction has proposed transferring two housing and land facilities to the city for management.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment was assigned to review the records, origin, and current land use status of organizations in Zone 1 and Zone 2 of Do Son, and propose a solution to the city before June 15.

According to a report from Do Son district, 11 central ministries and agencies have resort-cum-business houses in tourist areas, of which the projects of 6 agencies and units were invested in and built during the subsidy period and are now degraded; 12 projects with a total area of about 700,000 m2 are behind schedule.
At the end of April, the People's Committee of Do Son District proposed to the People's Committee of Hai Phong City to recommend the Government to direct ministries and branches to transfer assets to the city for management and development of tourism infrastructure. The district also requested the city to inspect, handle violations, and recover for auction to increase revenue for the budget in cases of slow or no land use, leaving it fallow, causing waste of resources.
Do Son is a famous tourist area built by the French in the early 20th century. After 1975, many ministries and sectors were granted land here to build motels, guesthouses, and nursing homes to serve officials, workers and civil servants in the sector. Qualified establishments were then converted to tourist hotels under the state enterprise mechanism.
However, after the subsidy period, these projects were not invested in and therefore degraded. In addition, private tourist accommodation facilities developed strongly, so the system of motels and guest houses of the ministry gradually lost customers and business was ineffective.
