The winners will be revealed at the 2023 Science Initiative Awards Ceremony, which will take place on the morning of May 17 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Technology (113 Tran Duy Hung, Hanoi). The program will take place alongside the Young Scientist Summit themed "For Sustainable Development Goals".
This is the second year VnExpress has organized the contest, aiming to create a playground for professional and non-professional scientists with the hope of inspiring creativity and promoting research applications in practice. The contest received more than 130 applications, of which 118 were valid.
The entries went through qualifying rounds and reader votes. The 30 entries that passed the finals were selected.
In the final round, the projects continue to participate in the voting round and present before the Jury. The exam score includes 80% of the Jury's evaluation score and 20% of the VnExpress readers' votes.
Associate Professor Dr. Mai Anh Tuan, Head of the Jury, assessed that this year's competition attracted both the number and composition of teams that are increasingly younger, with many teams from middle and high schools, and young contestants. He was impressed with many topics originating from practical needs in life, mostly from inventions in agriculture and human health care.
Assessing the very practical ideas, Associate Professor Tuan hopes that the contest will become an opportunity to connect non-professional scientists and inventors with professional research units to promote and increase product value.
This year’s prize structure includes: special prize of 100 million VND, first prize of 70 million VND, second prize of 50 million VND, third prize of 30 million VND and consolation prize of 20 million VND. In addition, the contest also selects and awards authors with special initiatives to serve people in remote, isolated and mountainous areas (worth 30 million VND).
The entire prize money is sponsored by the Hope Foundation. This is a non-profit social and charitable fund operating for the community, operated by VnExpress Newspaper and FPT Corporation. The fund pursues two goals: supporting difficult circumstances and creating development motivation. One of the fund's activities is to promote the application of technology, equipping individuals and communities with sustainable development tools, especially equipping knowledge through education.
The award ceremony and conference will be reported online and livestreamed by VnExpress on the fanpage and other platforms of VnExpress.
