While Regiment 102 was fighting on Hill A1, Regiment 36 also received orders to switch from threatening to attacking and destroying stronghold 106. At this time, our trenches were only about 50m from the barbed wire fence of stronghold 106. At 18:30, the attack on stronghold 106 began. Firepower simultaneously bombarded the stronghold fiercely, especially focusing on the main attack direction.

After a series of 105mm artillery fire, the 80th Battalion of the 36th Regiment moved to the last trench. The leading company immediately launched explosives to open the door. Due to the weakened defense system in the stronghold, the main company of the 88th Battalion charged straight into the command post, capturing the Lieutenant commander alive. The enemy in area A withdrew to area B with the intention of returning after our artillery stopped, but the main Battalion of the regiment, the 80th Battalion, quickly captured area A and from there advanced straight to area B along the trench in the stronghold, destroying the enemy, capturing 33 of them alive.

In area C, the enemy relied on bunkers and trenches to resist fiercely, but were eventually neutralized by us. The battle took place very quickly, within 30 minutes the 36th Regiment had completely controlled the 106th stronghold, destroying and capturing 160 Foreign Legion soldiers. In this battle, the 36th Regiment created the encirclement and encroachment tactic, quickly destroying the 106th stronghold. The Regiment's initiative was spread throughout the Dien Bien Phu front for learning and application.
