According to Reuters citing a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the two villages that the Russian army has just captured are Hostre and Hryhorivka (in the Donetsk region).
RIA Novosti news agency quoted the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin (appointed by Russia) as saying that fighting was taking place inside the town of Vuhledar, which had a population of 14,000 before the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Asked about reports that Russian forces had surrounded Vuhledar, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "This is a positive move."
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side asserts that Russian troops have not yet reached the outskirts of Vuhledar, but Moscow's reconnaissance groups are operating there.

"Our defense forces are trying to stop the Russian army. They have not yet taken control of the town," said Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin (appointed by Ukraine).
In a report on the evening of September 25, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that there had been eight armed clashes in the Vuhledar area. "Seven enemy attacks were repelled near Vuhledar and Vodiane. One battle is still ongoing. The situation is under control of the Ukrainian defense forces," the statement said.
The Ukrainian statement did not mention the two villages mentioned by Russian officials.
Analysts at the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War said Russia appeared to be stepping up its offensive in the Vuhledar region, but that capturing the town would not significantly alter Moscow's prospects for further advances.
However, in response to The Kyiv Independent , Mr. Federico Borsari, a member of the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), said: "The loss of Vuhledar is not only a heavy blow to the morale of Ukrainian forces, but also a very serious development that could threaten the security of the entire southwestern region of Donetsk controlled by Ukraine, along with the threat to the southern flank of the Pokrovsk stronghold."
