On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Fisheries Industry (April 1, 1959 - April 1, 2025), the Department of Agriculture and Environment has just coordinated with the Center for Marine Life Conservation and Community Development (MCD) to organize a launching ceremony for releasing seeds to restore aquatic resources with the theme "Joining hands to protect the ocean - Building a sustainable future".
Releasing seeds to regenerate resources
According to Mr. Le Dinh Khiem - Head of the Department of Fisheries, Seas and Islands, since 1992, every time the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Fisheries Industry comes around, the provincial Department of Agriculture has coordinated with units, businesses and fishermen to organize activities to release fishery seeds to regenerate aquatic resources. Every year, many fish seeds have been released to regenerate aquatic resources in lagoons and bays in the province such as: Bay lagoon (Nha Trang city), Nha Phu lagoon (Ninh Hoa town), Thuy Trieu lagoon (Cam Lam district), Van Phong bay. Thereby, contributing to propaganda and raising awareness of the community and fishermen about protecting coastal aquatic resources, protecting biodiversity...

This year, the activity of releasing fishery resources to regenerate aquatic resources organized by the Department of Agriculture and Environment at the Ran Trao Marine Ecosystem Protection Area (Van Hung Commune, Van Ninh District) has received the active participation of units, localities and the business community operating in the field of fisheries and fishermen. This is also the year with the largest number of fish released ever, with more than 2.6 million fish of all kinds, including: 1.14 million tiger prawns; 1.4 million clams; 10,000 snails; the rest are marine fish of high economic value such as: sea bass, yellowfin pomfret, black grouper, pearl grouper, red snapper, etc.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang - MCD representative said: “Over the past years, the center has actively accompanied the Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture to implement many activities to protect the marine ecosystem and regenerate aquatic resources. Through this activity of releasing fish to regenerate aquatic resources, MCD hopes that the fishing community will raise their sense of responsibility in exploiting aquatic resources reasonably, complying with legal regulations and actively participating in local co-management models. By releasing fish in the Ran Trao Marine Ecosystem Protection Area, we are contributing to regenerating resources and protecting the natural balance of this important marine ecosystem, creating sustainable resources and livelihoods for the fishing community in the area”.
Need the cooperation of the whole community
In recent years, due to the impact of many factors such as overexploitation, water pollution, climate change, etc., aquatic resources in many coastal areas and rivers have seriously declined. This not only affects the ecosystem but also directly impacts the lives and livelihoods of fishermen. Realizing the importance of protecting and developing aquatic resources, units, localities and the fishing community in the province have joined hands to implement many practical solutions to protect aquatic resources such as: Switching to aquaculture, switching to environmentally friendly fishing; Co-management teams for aquatic resources protection have actively coordinated with functional forces to prevent and handle destructive fishing activities that affect the environment, contributing to improving the effectiveness of protecting protected areas and marine ecosystems. Every year, organizations, individuals and fishermen join hands to release millions of valuable aquatic species such as tiger prawns, sea fish, sea cucumbers, etc. into the sea, contributing to the restoration of the ecosystem and the sustainable development of the fishing industry.

In addition, the province's marine resources and ecosystem protection work has also received support from many units and organizations, including MCD. For example, at Ran Trao, MCD has made efforts to support the implementation of the transfer of management rights to Ran Trao Marine Ecosystem Protection Area to the Van Hung Commune Community Group; supported the community group in developing a plan to protect aquatic resources; trained the community group on aquatic resources assessment, action planning, and marine ecosystem protection skills... This time, MCD donated to the Van Hung Commune Community Group 8,000 pomfret fish, 3,000 oyster and mussel vines, and 10,000 clusters of carrageenan to develop livelihoods for the community group members.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Chanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said: “Khanh Hoa is one of the provinces that early issued a plan to implement the National Program on protection and development of aquatic resources; is one of 11 provinces and cities to organize co-management in protecting aquatic resources; the organization of aquatic resource regeneration activities is deployed annually by the province. However, the protection and regeneration of aquatic resources does not stop at releasing fish but also requires the cooperation of the whole society in protecting the marine environment; the fishing community needs to strictly implement regulations on aquatic resource exploitation, limit and eventually stop destructive fishing. Every small action such as: not littering rivers and seas; using fishing gear properly... will contribute significantly to the protection and development of aquatic resources”.
