Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny is buried at the Borisov cemetery on the banks of the Moskva River after a church funeral.
Ivan Zhdanov, an ally of Alexei Navalny, said the funeral of the Russian opposition activist took place this afternoon at the Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God in the Maryino district of Moscow, with the participation of his parents and supporters. Navalny's body was then taken to the Borisov cemetery, 2.5 km away, for burial.
Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, and their two children are abroad and did not attend the ceremony.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that he had "nothing to say" to Navalny's family, warning that unauthorized gatherings were illegal. "The law must be observed. Those who participate in unauthorized gatherings will be held accountable before the law," he said.
Navalny, 47, a former lawyer, led the opposition Russian People's Union from 2019 to 2021 and has led numerous anti-government protests. He was arrested in Moscow in January 2021, sentenced to a total of about 30 years in prison on charges of extremism and other crimes, and transferred to the IK-3 prison near the Arctic in late 2023.
