"Traditional Craft Festival - Quang Nam 2024 is a vivid recreation of the strong development stages of traditional crafts in Quang Nam province in particular and the typical invited provinces and cities in general.
Thereby introducing and promoting the culture, history, achievements, potentials and strengths of the land and people of Quang Nam in the economic - cultural - social fields to domestic and foreign tourists and investors, contributing to the economic - cultural - social development of the province.
In addition, it also honors artisans and skilled workers in Quang Nam province and some provinces and cities that have contributed to the preservation and development of Vietnamese craft villages. Activities connecting craft villages between regions are organized to introduce and promote to domestic and foreign tourists the cultural identities, craft villages... associated with the history of formation and development of traditional crafts of the province. Aiming for solutions to preserve, pass on and develop Quang Nam crafts in the coming time.
"Creating opportunities to promote and boost traditional craft products, OCOP products, and typical rural industrial products to strengthen trade connections and expand domestic and export markets," Mr. Ho Quang Buu shared.

Mr. Pham Viet Tich - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam province said: "Rural economic development cannot ignore the role of craft villages, especially traditional craft villages.
Rural industries and craft villages in Quang Nam province have a long history of formation and development. They are production areas that play an important role in the restructuring of the rural economy; creating jobs and increasing income for rural workers, especially middle-aged and elderly workers, female workers, etc.; at the same time, they contribute significantly to preserving, maintaining and promoting the traditional cultural beauty and uniqueness of each countryside, the soul of the countryside, creating opportunities for cultural exchange through tourism."
Investing billions of dong to support craft village development
According to Mr. Pham Viet Tich, up to now, Quang Nam province has a total of 10 traditional occupations, 30 craft villages, and traditional craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee.
Among the recognized craft villages, there are 11 craft villages in the group of processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, 4 craft villages in the group of handicraft production; 15 craft villages in the group of producing wooden products, rattan and bamboo, ceramics, glass, textiles, yarn, embroidery, knitting, and small mechanics. The recognized occupations and craft villages are unevenly distributed among localities, mostly concentrated in the plain districts and 2 mountainous districts.

Of the total 30 craft villages and traditional craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, 16 craft villages are operating at a stable level, mainly concentrated in craft villages such as fine art carpentry, broom making, incense making, fish sauce processing, seafood processing, etc.; 14 craft villages are operating at a moderate level, not regularly maintained, some craft villages are at high risk of fading away, mainly concentrated in craft villages such as rattan weaving, weaving, conical hats, mat weaving, fabric weaving, brocade weaving. Some craft villages are stable and have developed thanks to their association with tourism development, such as Kim Bong carpentry village, Thanh Ha pottery village (Hoi An).
Implementing Decree No. 52/2018/ND-CP dated April 12, 2018 of the Government on rural industry development, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province has issued a number of mechanisms and policies to support the development of rural industries in Quang Nam province.

"In recent years, departments and branches have advised the Provincial People's Council and the Provincial People's Committee to issue a number of policies and mechanisms of the management sector related to supporting production establishments participating in rural industry activities. For example, in 2024, the Provincial People's Committee allocated VND 5,066 billion for localities to implement the mechanism according to Resolution No. 38/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council stipulating mechanisms and policies to support the development of rural industries and craft villages in Quang Nam province for the period 2023-2025," said Mr. Tich.

According to Mr. Pham Viet Tich, developing craft villages is associated with OCOP products. The OCOP program also prioritizes developing craft village products and rural industries that carry traditional and cultural values of the locality.
Focus on developing products in the direction of chain linkage; cooperate and link from production, preliminary processing, processing to product consumption to increase value, meet market standards and demands, and aim for export.
Local products are highly appreciated and increasingly invested in expanding production scale as well as supporting subjects to participate in trade promotion activities, outstanding products such as: Ngoc Linh Ginseng, Tra My Cinnamon, Tien Phuoc Pepper, Bird's Nest, Hoi An lanterns, Dai Loc rice paper, Cu Lao Cham ginger tea, Old Brick Kiln purple rice, Deo Le bamboo chicken,... and many OCOP products are formed and developed from craft village products, rural industries associated with Community tourism spots, bringing unique values to each locality of the province.
Developing a number of traditional craft villages and craft villages recognized as 3 to 4 star OCOP products. OCOP products from craft villages such as Thanh Ha pottery, Cua Khe fish sauce village in Thang Binh district, Ma Chau silk weaving in Duy Xuyen district, Dien Ban town handicrafts, cinnamon making in Bac Tra My district, Brocade weaving, bamboo and rattan weaving... have been restored and developed to help increase people's income, narrowing the income gap for the poor in rural areas.

In addition, developing craft village tourism contributes to preserving and developing traditional craft villages in a sustainable way because it not only helps expand the market, opens up many favorable opportunities to promote the development of production of traditional craft village products, but more importantly, it also contributes to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values in each craft village.
In recent times, Quang Nam province has had many community tourism models associated with traditional craft experiences such as tours to experience weaving, carpentry techniques, bronze casting, brocade weaving, pottery making, etc.
These tourism models not only contribute to promoting local economic development, increasing income of craft village residents by bringing tourists to experience products and services, increasing consumption of craft village products, but also help promote products and values of craft villages, thereby preserving and effectively promoting the cultural values of craft villages.

"It can be affirmed that the work of preserving and promoting the cultural values of craft villages in Quang Nam province associated with the development of tourism economy to preserve and promote the traditional cultural identity of the nation, region, and locality is an inevitable trend that has been and is promoting positive effects.
In addition, it also arouses the potential, advantages, and traditional values bearing the mark and brand of the locality and the country through developing products of craft villages, especially products of traditional craft villages and sophisticated handicrafts associated with conferring, honoring, and developing a team of artisans, skilled workers, and laborers in localities, craft villages, and traditional craft villages.
In addition to creating jobs and increasing income for people, craft villages also play an important role in preserving the space, landscape of craft villages, traditional cultural beauty and have great potential for tourism development," Mr. Pham Viet Tich shared.
