Implementing Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, period 2021-2025, the District Women's Union develops communication materials; replicates groups, models, and clubs in villages, communes, and schools. Coordinates with the District Health Center to support ethnic minority women to give birth safely and take care of children; coordinates with the Department of Education and Training to promote gender mainstreaming in training programs, raising awareness for managers and teachers.
Ms. La Thi Yeu, Chairwoman of the District Women's Union, said: The district has established and maintained 35 community communication teams; 4 "leaders of change" clubs in schools; 7 "Trusted addresses" in the communes of Chieng Khay, Ca Nang, Nam Et, Muong Sai, Chieng Khoang, Chieng Bang, Muong Giang. The operating models have been creatively and flexibly applied according to the characteristics of each locality and promoted the role of members, people, and communities in propagating and mobilizing to change gender stereotypes, promoting gender equality in society.
In addition, the Association also organizes training courses to improve knowledge on preventing and combating gender-based violence, skills to support victims and operate "Trusted Addresses"; guides, plans to organize communication events, organize activities for members of models, clubs and people. From 2024 to present, the Association has coordinated to organize 4 propaganda contests on "Gender Equality Law, Law on Prevention and Combat of Violence and Crimes against Children", attracting more than 1,500 students to participate; organize 7 dialogue conferences on policies for women in communes. Coordinate with the district Department of Education and Training to organize 3 literacy classes in Chieng Khay, Muong Sai and Nam Et communes.
The Women's Union of Chieng Khay commune currently has 1,075 members, operating in 11 branches, 100% of whom are ethnic minorities. Up to now, the Union has established 7 community communication teams, each consisting of 10 members; the "Leader of Change" Club at Chieng Khay Ethnic Boarding Secondary School; the "Trusted Address" model at the Commune Health Station. Ms. Tong Thi Thong, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the commune, shared: In the early days of establishment, the community communication teams still faced many difficulties in organization and propaganda; however, thanks to good coordination and promoting the role of prestigious people, Party cell secretaries, contents such as changing gender stereotypes in housework; consequences of early marriage, consanguineous marriage; gender equality; prevention and control of domestic violence have been more fully recognized by the people.
In Ca Nang commune, from 2024 to present, the Women's Union has launched 4 community communication teams, bringing the total number to 6 community communication teams; maintained the model of "Trusted Address", "Leader of Change" Club; organized dialogue conferences in Phuong village, listened to and answered opinions of cadres and members at the grassroots level related to gender equality.
Mr. Me Van Sinh, Party Cell Secretary, Village Chief, Head of the Pho Pha Village Community Communication Team, Ca Nang Commune, said: The team regularly disseminates information to the people about gender equality, violence prevention, prevention of child marriage, incestuous marriage, etc. Up to now, women in the village have paid attention to reproductive health care. Men in the family have helped their wives and children with housework; taught their children to study, joined hands to build family happiness and created conditions for their wives to participate in community activities.
With effective methods and creative models in propaganda and implementation of the Women's Union at all levels of Quynh Nhai district, it has gradually changed and raised the community's awareness of gender equality. It has created conditions for ethnic minority women and children to develop comprehensively and have a better and more equal life.
