Trung Son Hydropower Reservoir is located in Thanh Hoa and Son La provinces, with a normal water level at 160m, a dead water level at 150m; total capacity of 348.5 million m3, regular flood prevention capacity of 112 million m3. The operation of the reservoir must follow the principles of ensuring construction safety, ensuring flood safety for downstream areas, ensuring minimum flow on the river, water use needs in downstream areas and ensuring power generation efficiency; therefore, solutions for effective management and use of water resources are of particular interest to Trung Son Hydropower One Member Co., Ltd. (TSHPCo).
Overview of Trung Son Hydropower Plant.
The representative of the Technical - Safety Department, TSHPCo said: During the dry season months from January 2024 to May 2024, Trung Son Hydropower Reservoir must ensure the water demand downstream, serving irrigation pumping for the 2024 winter-spring rice crop of Thanh Hoa province and the expected high mobilization of the national power system for the peak hot season combined with water supply reserve, maintaining the minimum flow downstream in the context of the flow to the reservoir being forecasted to be 10 - 40% lower than the average of many years. According to the regulations of the Inter-reservoir Process on the Ma River Basin, from the beginning of the dry season (from November 16, 2023 to July 14, 2024), Trung Son Hydropower Plant has proactively maintained the minimum water level of the reservoir at no less than 157.7m as prescribed and ensured the minimum flow downstream at no less than 66.7m3/s.
It is known that, in accordance with the provisions of Circular 17/2021/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment regulating the monitoring and exploitation of water resources. Since 2020, TSHPCo has deployed the construction and put into operation a monitoring system to monitor and exploit water resources in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Water Resources.
Most recently, in order to promote the application of 4.0 technology and to meet the requirements for accuracy and stability of the real-time online monitoring and data transmission system with a frequency of 15 minutes/time, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited (TSHPCo) has upgraded and replaced the Dataloger signal transmission device with integrated new technology, using high-speed 4G sim to ensure continuous signal transmission to the server; at the same time, upgrading the monitoring website to be compatible with the new equipment system. After the installation and testing process, TSHPCo has completed and successfully put into operation the real-time monitoring and exploitation system of water resources, meeting the requirements of Circular 17/2021/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Continuously improving, updating and upgrading the water resources monitoring system has contributed to improving the monitoring of water resources exploitation; helping the operating force at the plant to control and monitor online the parameters of measuring the water level upstream and downstream of the dam, the flow parameters through the generator, through the spillway... to promptly have plans in the operation, exploiting water resources effectively, improving the efficiency of water resource use. At the same time, with the help of the real-time monitoring and exploitation system, the company's management board has been able to grasp the situation and operate electricity production, and have timely instructions in regulating the water level of the reservoir, which is an important parameter in the management of TSHPCo's participation in the electricity market. This upgrade and improvement has contributed significantly to the company's digital transformation journey, especially demonstrating TSHPCo's efforts in diverse digital transformation in production fields.
