Norway appreciates the role and position of Vietnam

On the morning of January 20, at the National Assembly House, the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Don Tuan Phong and the Norwegian Parliamentary delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Family and Cultural Affairs Committee, Head of the Asian Delegation of the Norwegian Parliament Aslaug Sem-Jacobsen co-chaired the talks and discussed issues of mutual concern.

The Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Don Tuan Phong and the Norwegian Parliamentary delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Family and Cultural Affairs Committee, Head of the Asian Delegation of the Norwegian Parliament Aslaug Sem-Jacobsen co-chaired the meeting and discussed issues of mutual concern.

Noting that the delegation was one of the first international guests that the Vietnamese National Assembly had the honor to welcome in the first days of 2025, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Don Tuan Phong affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the traditional relationship and good cooperation with Norway. Over the past decades, both sides have been pleased to witness the positive developments in the bilateral relationship.

Appreciating Norway's great attention to the Indo-Pacific region, including ASEAN and Vietnam, the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee stated that Vietnam hopes that in the coming time, the two countries will continue to promote and further strengthen their good political relations; and exchange delegations at the highest level more frequently.

At the same time, the two sides will soon complete negotiations and move towards signing cooperation agreements, including the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EFTA bloc (including 4 countries: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), cooperation agreement in responding to climate change; strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade - investment, culture, education, technology, digital transformation, green transformation; further promote people-to-people exchange activities.

Regarding cooperation between the two National Assemblies, according to the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Vietnamese National Assembly hopes that in the coming time, the two sides will increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, focusing on exchanging experiences in the legislative field; soon consider establishing friendship parliamentary groups of each side, as a basis for enhancing cooperation between parliamentarians of the two countries...

Agreeing with the proposals of Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Don Tuan Phong and Deputy Chairman of the Family and Cultural Affairs Committee, the Norwegian Parliament Aslaug Sem-Jacobsen affirmed that it will closely cooperate with agencies of the Vietnamese National Assembly to further promote the relationship and cooperation between the two countries and the two Parliaments.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs, Norwegian Parliament Aslaug Sem-Jacobsen said that the world situation in recent years has changed a lot and has been unpredictable. In the context of increasing geopolitical instability and the growing role of the Indo-Pacific region, the Norwegian Parliament wants to increase contacts and seek opportunities to promote cooperation with countries in the region.

The Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs of the Norwegian Parliament said that Norway highly values ​​the role and position of Vietnam in the region. The Vietnamese National Assembly also plays a very active role in bilateral and multilateral foreign affairs activities.

Therefore, Norway wishes to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Vietnam in the coming time. On the legislative side, the Norwegian Parliament wishes to further strengthen information exchange, dialogue and cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly.
