Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that in the 11 months of 2024, our country's pangasius exports earned 1.8 billion USD, an increase of 10% over the same period last year.

Among the 5 main customers, pangasius exports to the US recorded the highest growth rate of 26% over the same period last year, with turnover reaching 317 million USD.

Notably, in November 2024, value-added pangasius exports to the US reached more than 2 million USD, an increase of 4,270% compared to the same period last year. In the first 11 months of 2024, the export of this product to the US reached more than 12 million USD, an increase of 2,182% (22 times) compared to the same period last year. 2022 is expected to be the year with the highest value of pangasius exports to the US, when the US opened up after the Covid-19 pandemic and massively imported Vietnamese pangasius in the first half of the year.

However, the immediate consequence of the massive imports was that supply in the US market was greater than demand, leading to inventory throughout 2023. Along with that, the economic crisis, declining demand, and consumers tightening spending caused the amount of goods in stock to be consumed slowly, leading to a significant decrease in pangasius export turnover to the US in 2023.

By 2024, in 11 months, in the VAT pangasius segment alone, the US mainly imported breaded products from Vietnam with code HS16041990 (frozen breaded pangasius fingers, fried breaded pangasius, frozen breaded pangasius pieces, frozen breaded pangasius nuggets...).

Accordingly, product code HS16041990 accounted for 99.9% of the proportion of value-added pangasius exported to the US in 11 months with a value of 12.4 million USD. In addition, the US also imported other value-added products such as: frozen pangasius skewers, crispy fried pangasius skin snacks, frozen boiled pangasius balls, frozen pangasius balls...

Vietnam's billion-dollar fish receives more good news from the US Having earned 1.3 billion USD, Vietnam's pangasius continues to receive more good news from the US market. The best news is that after more than 20 years of being involved in a lawsuit, US authorities have determined that many Vietnamese pangasius fillet exporters are not dumping in the US.
