Goals of Vietnamese sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Báo Lao Động•15/07/2024
Up to now, Vietnamese sports have not set a specific goal of competing for medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics (France) 2024. However, athletes are still determined and striving to achieve the best results. Vietnamese sports have 16 athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. They are Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vo Thi My Tien (swimming); Nguyen Thuy Linh, Le Duc Phat (badminton); Nguyen Thi That (cycling); Hoang Thi Tinh (judo); Vo Thi Kim Anh, Ha Thi Linh (boxing); Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting); Do Anh Nguyet, Le Quoc Phong (archery); Pham Thi Hue (rowing); Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing); Tran Thi Nhi Yen (athletics); Trinh Van Vinh (weightlifting).
Up to this point, the sports industry has not set a specific target for competing for medals at this year's Olympics. In fact, the teams that have officially won tickets to Paris (France) have already completed their targets. However, some sports that are expected to compete for achievements are weightlifting and shooting.

Weightlifters have won medals at previous Olympics, such as Hoang Anh Tuan's silver medal at the 2008 Olympics and Tran Le Quoc Toan's bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. This year, Vietnam's weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh has a ticket to Paris in the 61kg category, even though he has just returned after a 4-year ban for doping. Previously, Van Vinh won a place at the Olympics after ranking 6th with a total lift of 294kg in the qualifying round. However, if they want to compete for a medal, Vietnamese athletes must achieve a total lift of 300kg or more. This is also a big challenge for Van Vinh as well as the coaching staff. Currently, Trinh Van Vinh is still working hard in the final preparation stage to be able to reach his peak performance at the official competition time, from July 26 to August 11.

In addition, shooting is also the hope of Vietnamese sports. After Hoang Xuan Vinh's achievement of 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, shooting has not been able to repeat this feat. Therefore, shooters Trinh Thu Vinh (10m air pistol) and Le Thi Mong Tuyen (10m rifle) will leave for the 2024 Paris Olympics with great expectations from fans. Expanding to the Southeast Asian region, countries with developed sports have set specific goals. Accordingly, Thailand is determined to win 6 gold medals and 3 silver medals in taekwondo (strength), weightlifting, golf, boxing and badminton. Meanwhile, Indonesia's goal is to win 1 gold medal or more, with some key sports being badminton, weightlifting, and mountain climbing. Malaysia aims to win 1 gold medal (track cycling, badminton), Singapore also aims for 1 gold medal (sailing) and the Philippines strives for at least 1 gold medal (gymnastics, boxing).
