Song Ma is a district with a large area of fruit trees, especially longan trees with more than 7,500 hectares, rich flower resources, an ideal environment for raising honey bees. Exploiting this advantage, farmers in Song Ma district have invested in developing honey beekeeping, bringing high economic efficiency. Currently, Song Ma is entering the golden season of longan honey, promising the highest yield of the year.
Every season when longan flowers bloom, beekeepers from all over gather at Song Ma to harvest honey. With over 450 foreign bee colonies located in Hai Son village, Chieng Khoong commune, Mr. Hoang Dai Luong from Thanh Son district, Phu Tho province expects to harvest about 6 to 8 tons of longan honey. According to Mr. Luong, the longan flower season is the most effective season for making quality honey. Longan honey has its own unique flavor.
Hoang Dai Luong - Tan Phong Hamlet, Vo Mieu Commune, Thanh Son District, Phu Tho Province : "Every longan flower season, I bring my bees to Song Ma, Son La to collect honey. Song Ma longan flower honey has a distinctive flavor compared to other regions. Each type of honey has a different aroma and richness. Song Ma honey is very fragrant, thick and rich."
As a member of the Song Ma Honey Beekeeping Cooperative, Ms. Pham Thi Nguyen's family in Group 8, Song Ma town currently has 150 bee colonies. The blooming season of longan flowers is an abundant source of flowers, an ideal environment for bees to harvest honey. This is the second honey rotation of Ms. Nguyen's family, with a total of 1.8 tons of honey harvested from both rotations. The cooperative's longan honey product has been certified as a 3-star OCOP product.
Ms. Pham Thi Nguyen - Residential Group 8, Song Ma Town, Song Ma District : "My family has been raising bees for 27 years now. According to my family's expectations, this year the weather is favorable and there are many longan flowers, the honey is very delicious and fragrant. This year's yield will reach its maximum."
According to statistics, Song Ma district has 14,765 bee colonies. Although the nectar exploitation period of longan is short, only about 25-30 days, the honey output is the highest of the year. According to beekeepers, this year the weather is favorable, the longan flowers are more numerous than previous years. Therefore, the honey output is estimated at over 100 tons. With prices ranging from 80 to 95,000 VND/kg, many households have an income of hundreds of millions of VND.
Dang Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Khoong Commune, Song Ma District : "Currently, in Chieng Khoong Commune, there are more than 900 hectares of longan, currently the longan area is bearing fruit as well as flowering. In the commune, there are currently some individuals and groups bringing beehives to Chieng Khoong land as well as SM district to collect longan honey, this is also a potential for the people of Chieng Khoong Commune"
The golden honey season of longan flowers in Song Ma not only creates a unique, high-quality product but also creates jobs for many seasonal workers. This is also the creativity and acumen of workers when they know how to take advantage of the inherent advantages of the locality to increase income./.
