High demand

Busy with work at the end of the year, many people have started to buy household items, cakes, and clothes for their families by shopping online. Unlike previous years, instead of struggling to carry many items, Ms. Dang Thanh Hoa (residing in Thuan Phuoc ward, Hai Chau district) can shop right at home by shopping online.

Ms. Thanh Hoa shared that because she is an office worker, her busy year-end schedule only lasts until close to Tet, so she hardly has free time to go out shopping, so online shopping is her optimal choice.

“Every year, on the days before Tet, I have to rush to the market and supermarket after work to shop in a state of hustle and bustle, jostling to buy goods, struggling to carry things in my hands, causing me many difficulties. Now, online shopping helps me solve those problems. Now, just by taking advantage of the time at home with simple and quick operations, I can buy necessary items for my family,” said Ms. Hoa.

The family has small children so shopping is quite inconvenient. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thuong's family (Man Thai ward, Son Tra district) was not familiar with online shopping at first, but now they are proficient with the operations of "closing orders online, hunting for discount codes on live".

Ms. Thuong said: “Before giving birth, I got used to shopping online, researching reputable shops on e-commerce platforms to shop with peace of mind. Now, near Tet, items such as diapers, toys, milk, and baby food are all available on e-commerce platforms, helping me have many choices of safe products for my baby, and if I know how to hunt for sales, the prices are even much cheaper than outside.”

Having been working as a delivery man for 3 years, Mr. Tran Thanh Sang (Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district) is busier on the days before Tet to deliver goods to customers on time. “I myself try to work hard on the days before Tet to earn extra income to visit my family during Tet. During these days, orders are 4-5 times more, so I try to work hard to deliver continuously to customers. In recent years, the amount of goods ordered during Tet has increased significantly; buyers have also gradually grown fond of and trusted online shopping more.”

Safe Online Shopping

With just one click, customers can easily order the necessary products. However, there are also many sad stories of “ordering one thing, receiving another product” that make many consumers need to be more careful.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong (Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District) said: “The other day I ordered some confectionery and jam products to try in time to prepare for the upcoming Tet holiday. The jams advertised on Facebook had very attractive images, but when I received the goods, the delivered products were different from the images and could not be used because they were past their expiration date. I contacted the seller but received no response.”

Although online shopping is growing, to have a safe shopping experience, buyers also need to pay attention to important things.

Sharing her experience of shopping on online markets, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao (residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district) said: "When buying goods, I am very interested in the product viewing, return and warranty policies; especially I am also interested in the number of products sold as well as the buyer's reviews through star ratings, comments, images... to avoid unwanted situations."

The e-commerce market in our country is currently in a development stage with very high annual growth. Along with that, e-commerce activities in Da Nang city are in a stage of rapid development and strong growth. Especially during Tet, people's shopping needs increase, online shopping is chosen by many people. In addition to the convenience of online shopping, ensuring consumer rights in shopping activities on e-commerce platforms is extremely important.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, Director of the City Market Management Department, said that in 2023, the City Market Management Department has implemented the Anti-counterfeiting and Consumer Protection Project in e-commerce until 2025 to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of anti-counterfeiting and consumer protection in e-commerce activities. At the same time, it contributes to promoting sustainable e-commerce development, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of businesses and consumers.

In addition, the City Market Management Department informed that in the coming time, to protect consumers' rights during the Lunar New Year 2024, the Department will continue to strengthen the fight, promptly prevent and thoroughly handle acts of taking advantage of e-commerce activities to trade in smuggled goods, banned goods, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, goods that infringe rights, etc. and fraudulent activities in e-commerce activities.
