Having graduated with honors in Japanese Language, Thanh Nhan can use Japanese, Chinese and English. However, after graduating, Nhan decided to pursue a career as a technology car driver.
Nguyen Thanh Nhan (born in 2002, from Son Tay, Hanoi) is a former student of Phuong Dong University. Since his first year of university, Nhan worked as a waiter in restaurants. At the end of his third year, he applied for a job in a Japanese restaurant. As a student majoring in Japanese Language, during his time working here, Nhan always took advantage of every opportunity to communicate with customers. The male student also made friends with a Japanese exchange student to practice together. Thanks to that, in less than a year, Nhan was able to communicate fluently in Japanese.

After graduating from university, while most of his friends chose to work in a different field, Nhan applied to a Japanese company, but later felt it was not suitable. The young man continued to try his hand at a number of other jobs and did not like them either. Finally, Nhan became a technology car driver. His decision was discouraged by his relatives and friends. However, Nhan said that this was a choice he had carefully considered, and also a new direction he wanted to challenge to discover himself. "Maybe, this job will be more difficult than working in an office, but in return, I also receive a lot of valuable experience and experience every day that not all professions have," Nhan said. After graduating, Nhan pursued a career as a technology car driver. One time, while on a bus carrying a foreign guest, when this person needed help, Nhan stammered, not knowing how to respond. That was also the first time since graduating that Nhan thought he needed to focus on learning a foreign language. Starting from zero, Nhan was inspired by watching videos of Vietnamese people communicating fluently with foreigners. When he was motivated, he started to schedule and study hard. “I started learning from the basics, such as the IPA phonetic table, to pronounce better, improve listening comprehension, and learn English tenses.” When he had basic grammar and vocabulary, Nhan downloaded free language learning apps, did exercises, and practiced listening and speaking in his free time. Because there was no pressure to study for grades, Nhan learned very quickly. “For me, language is for communication. Therefore, at work, whenever I meet foreigners, I take the initiative to start a conversation, taking advantage of all the knowledge I have gained to speak. I believe that only by communicating a lot can I master a new language.” On that journey, many foreign guests also praised Nhan for speaking well. The 10X thinks that she has no other secret than never being afraid of making mistakes or worrying “is what I say okay?”. “I just talk a lot, as long as I get used to it. If I am afraid of making mistakes, I will never improve my speaking skills,” Nhan shared.Nhan graduated with honors in Japanese Language from Phuong Dong University. (Photo: NVCC)
He learned Chinese in a similar way. Because he had a foundation in Chinese when he was in college, Nhan did not have to spend as much time studying as he did with English. Within 5-6 months, from someone who was completely "blind" to English, Nhan was able to communicate with customers on a basic level. Of course, at first, he also went through a stage where he spoke but customers only understood 50%. In this situation, instead of giving up, he used all the relevant vocabulary to explain until the customer understood what he said. When he returned home, Nhan continued to practice his pronunciation so that listeners could understand better. In order to avoid overlapping, Nhan only studied two languages a day and divided his study schedule evenly throughout the week.10X loves learning languages. (Photo: NVCC)
On his journey as a technology driver, Nhan also recorded his daily life and posted it on Tiktok. Unexpectedly, the videos Nhan posted were well received by many people. After nearly 6 months, Nhan has more than 130,000 followers on his personal channel. "I am very happy and surprised to receive so much attention. Through the clips, I just want to convey the message that no matter who you are or what job you do, you still need to constantly learn and improve your knowledge," Nhan said. Currently, the male shipper usually drives from 6am to late afternoon every day. Every time he goes out, Nhan always brings two foreign language books to study while waiting for his electric car to charge or when there are no new orders. Nhan aims to focus on studying to get the N2 Japanese certificate here. Thanh Nhan said that many acquaintances feel sorry when they see him pursuing this job, but he does not feel regretful. “For now, this job gives me income, and I can still take the initiative in my study time. With foreign languages, if I don’t study today, I might remember it tomorrow, but by next week I’ll have forgotten half of it, and over time I’ll have forgotten it all. Therefore, I have to continuously study and improve every day.” However, in the future, he hopes to become “a better version of myself.” In addition to being fluent in English, Chinese, and Japanese, Nhan plans to learn a new language, Korean.Vietnamnet.vn
