Impressed by the beauty of the West, Mr. Tran Tien Dung (38 years old, photographer in Hanoi) recorded the daily life and work of local people.
The flood season in the West is around July - October of the lunar calendar (August - November of the solar calendar) every year, when water from the upper Mekong flows to the Mekong Delta. Photo: NVCC
Especially in provinces like Dong Thap, An Giang, and Long Xuyen Quadrangle, people live almost entirely on the vast sea. Photo: NVCC
During a business trip to the West in August this year, Mr. Tran Tien Dung (38 years old, photographer in Hanoi) had the opportunity to fully capture the beauty of the West during the flood season. Photo: NVCC
“These photos recreate the scene of people harvesting and washing lotus flowers. This is a real activity, but to create more beautiful and artistic works, we rearranged the arrangement a bit. All of these photos were taken in Moc Hoa, Long An,” said Mr. Dung. Photo: NVCC
According to Mr. Dung, witnessing the daily life of the people in the flooded fields with his own eyes inspired him to take this photo series. Through his lens, the photographer hopes to portray the most authentic life as well as the simple, hard-working, diligent and skillful character of the people in the West. Photo: NVCC
“The people of the West are very simple. Sometimes, just a thatched house and a boat can make people feel happy living in the middle of a mangrove forest or a vast field of water,” the Hanoi photographer was impressed. Photo: NVCC
Living in the middle of the river, most of the people here are attached to fishing. Although not rich, almost everyone has a comfortable life, is free and extremely generous, enthusiastic and sincere. Photo: NVCC
“During the process of working, to get satisfactory photos, I asked the locals to soak in the water and repeat the movements many times. However, they were still happy to help. The friendliness and enthusiasm of the people of the West left a very deep impression on me,” the photographer shared. Photo: NVCC
In addition to recording the scene of people harvesting lotus flowers in Long An, Mr. Dung also has impressive photos of people working in Tra Vinh, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long... Photo: NVCC
Despite the eye-catching results, Mr. Dung said he still had many regrets after taking the photo series: "Due to the difficulty in traveling, there were still many beautiful scenes that I could not capture. Hopefully in the future I will have the opportunity to come back here many more times, going deeper into the small canals to record the life, people, and beautiful scenery of the West." Photo: NVCC
Besides, the photographer also affirmed that every place in Vietnam has its own beauty. The more he travels, the more he loves his homeland and wants to explore more new lands: "Simple life has many beautiful things. I hope I can witness and record many moments like this", he affirmed. Photo: NVCC
