From November 9, heavy rains in the Central region will gradually decrease instead of lasting as previously forecast. A new storm in the Philippines will gradually strengthen in the coming days, experts say, and it is likely to influence this rain.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (November 4), in the area from South Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places will have very heavy rain. The rainfall from 7am to 3pm is over 60mm in some places such as: Nam Dan (Nghe An) 62.2mm, Cam Yen (Ha Tinh) 120.6mm, Trieu Hoa (Quang Tri) 119mm,...
It is forecasted that from this evening to the evening of November 6, heavy rain will be at its peak in the Central region. In particular, the area from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai will have heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 100-300mm, locally over 500mm. Warning of the risk of localized heavy rain (>150mm/6 hours).
From this evening to tomorrow night (November 5), the Thanh Hoa - Nghe An area will have moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall from 50-150mm, locally over 200mm.
In addition, from this evening to tomorrow, in the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 15-30mm, locally over 60mm (storms will be concentrated in the afternoon and evening).
The meteorological agency warned that on the night of November 6 and the 7, in the area from Quang Binh to Phu Yen, there will continue to be moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50-80mm, locally over 150mm; in the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, rainfall will be 100-150mm, locally over 250mm.
"Heavy rain in the central provinces is likely to last until around November 8," the meteorological agency said.
Thus, compared to previous forecasts, heavy rain in the Central region tends to decrease gradually from November 9. Previously, the meteorological agency assessed that after November 10, heavy rain in the Central region will have complicated developments with the possibility of 2-3 heavy rains. In which, the first half of November will be concentrated in the provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, the second half of November and early December will be concentrated in the provinces from Quang Binh to Phu Yen.
According to meteorological experts, one of the causes affecting flood scenarios in the Central region is the appearance of a storm off the coast of the Philippines.
This is the 22nd storm (in the western Pacific Ocean) with the international name Yinxing (name proposed by China). Currently, most major forecast models, including the US and Japanese meteorological agencies, believe that Yinxing will enter the East Sea around November 8-9; becoming storm number 7.
At the same time, cold air from the north is coming, and it will last until this time before it begins to weaken. When the storm enters the northeastern area of the East Sea, the cold air is weak, so the storm is likely to move north of Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago and then towards Hainan Island (China). After that, due to the continued influence of cold air, the storm will weaken.
However, according to experts, because the storm will be affected by many factors, and these are only long-term forecasts, there will be many changes.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy, an expert on climate change and natural disaster warning, also said that the new storm in the Philippines will gradually strengthen in the coming days and this process will affect the rainfall pattern in the Central region.
Accordingly, from November 3 to 7, the storm is not strong enough so its impact is not much. From November 7 to 8, when the storm is stronger, it will attract moist clouds from the East Sea towards it and cause the rain along the central coast to gradually decrease. From November 9 to 10, when the storm is at its strongest, the rain in the central region will stop.
However, Dr. Huy warned that even if the rain scenario decreases, people still need to be vigilant to prevent unexpected extreme situations that may occur.
