In the first 9 months of the year, lottery revenue reached a record of more than 34,500 billion VND, equivalent to 94 billion VND per day.
According to the Ministry of Finance's estimated figures as of the end of September, the country's lottery revenue reached VND34,546 billion, a sharp increase of nearly 20% over the same period last year. This is also the highest lottery revenue in the first three quarters of the year ever. Compared to the plan for the whole year of 2023, this revenue reached 92% of the progress.
Lottery revenue is concentrated in the southern provinces and cities. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, lottery revenue in the first 9 months of the year reached VND3,585 billion, accounting for about 10% of the country's total revenue and up 8% over the same period.
In some other southern localities, lottery revenue in the first 9 months of the year also increased sharply and all reached over a thousand billion. For example, revenue in Dong Nai reached 1,630 billion VND, up 35%; Can Tho 1,327 billion VND, up 11%; Dong Thap over 1,520 billion VND, up nearly 20%; Tien Giang 1,460 billion VND, up more than 15%; Vinh Long collected over 1,187 billion, up nearly 10%...
In the context of all economic activities being difficult, lottery is one of the few sources of revenue that recorded growth compared to the same period last year. Other major sources of revenue such as personal income tax, environmental protection tax, fees, charges, revenue from crude oil or import-export activities all decreased.
In the middle of this year, Mr. Do Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Southern Lottery Council, said that "lottery is in its most favorable period". The Standing Committee of the Council has proposed that the Ministry of Finance increase the issued sales from October 1; increase sales by more than 8% to 130 billion VND per period because the number of issued tickets "is currently not enough to meet demand".
