On April 15, Mr. Le Huu Toan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang, said that despite the complicated situation of heat and drought, clean water and domestic water for people in the whole province are still basically guaranteed. Only some border areas are experiencing local water shortages and the functional sectors and the army are implementing many support measures for the people.
From April 13 to 16, the Military Command of Kien Giang province coordinated with Kien Giang Water Supply and Drainage Company Limited to bring fresh water to the border areas of Giang Thanh and Ha Tien to provide free of charge to the people.
Up to this point, the lakes on the islands in the province are operating and regulating with rotational treatment measures that can ensure water supply during the period from May 26 to July 2024.
Particularly for Tien Hai island commune (Ha Tien city), about 700 m3 of water must be transferred from the mainland every day to supply to the people. The people's usage must be more economical. In the island communes, the agricultural sector has reduced the water supply in rotation in all lakes, but still supplies water about 2 hours/time for people to store water, ensuring living conditions.
The Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang added that for the clean water supply network in rural areas, the agricultural sector manages 58 water supply stations, which are currently basically ensuring water supply conditions. However, due to the impact of drought and salinity, the department noted that 3 stations had to reduce flow due to saltwater intrusion, and had to be better treated to provide quality water to people. For urban water supply, the department has worked with the water supply and drainage company to ensure the operation of reservoirs as well as urban water supply works. Up to this point, there is still enough water for the reservoirs and water supply conditions for urban areas are ensured.
