The incident happened this evening (September 14) at Nguyen Hue walking street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, when famous streamer IShowSpeed was live streaming on his Youtuber channel with 29.7 million subscribers.
In the evening of the same day, some domestic social networking sites posted information, expressing outrage at this "price gouging" action.
Upon receiving the information, Ben Nghe Ward Police invited two people who rented out the electric balance bike game on Nguyen Hue walking street - appearing in IShowSpeed's clip - to come in for questioning.
Ben Nghe Ward People's Committee also proactively contacted the IShowSpeed crew to apologize to this famous streamer.
Accordingly, during a series of activities in Vietnam, from the afternoon to the evening of September 14, IShowSpeed, real name Darren Watkins Jr. (19 years old, American nationality) was present in the center of District 1.
At Nguyen Hue walking street, a famous American streamer participated in a balancing electric scooter ride. The content from the live stream clip shows that he was "ripped off" by the business people here when using the service.
The two people who sold the balance scooter initially quoted a price of $100, then lowered it to $1 million. When IShowSpeed got the money in his hand, the people quickly snatched it away.
IShowSpeed stood on the balance scooter for about 2-3 minutes but could not move because there were too many people surrounding him. After that, the famous streamer left and continued with other activities.
It is known that the business of renting electric balance bikes at Nguyen Hue walking street costs about 30-40 thousand VND/30 minutes, on weekends it can be 50-70 thousand VND.
Therefore, when some websites shared images, clips and information showing that IShowSpeed was "ripped off" 1 million VND for a few short minutes standing on a balance bike, many people were upset, saying that it damaged the image of Vietnam tourism...
