A strong cold front is moving south and is expected to affect our country in the coming days. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the early morning and early morning of February 7, the cold front will begin to affect the Northeast region, then spread to the Northwest, North Central, Central Central and some places in the South Central region.

Under the influence of cold air, from February 7, the weather in the North will turn cold and freezing. The lowest temperature will be from 9-12 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 5-8 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas below 3 degrees Celsius. The Hanoi area will also experience cold and freezing with the lowest temperature commonly 10-12 degrees Celsius.

From the night of February 7, cold air will affect the North Central region, causing this area to turn very cold. The lowest temperature is commonly 11-14 degrees Celsius. Particularly, the area from Quang Binh to Hue will turn cold, with some places experiencing very cold temperatures with common temperatures of 14-16 degrees Celsius.

Due to the influence of the cold air strengthening combined with the strong current in the upper westerly wind zone, from the night of February 6 to the morning of February 8, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa will have scattered rain. From February 7-9, the area from Nghe An to Khanh Hoa will have rain, showers, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms. The high mountainous areas of the North are likely to experience snow and frost.

Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

It is forecasted that this severe cold spell will likely last until around February 10. People need to proactively take measures to protect people, livestock and crops from the cold.
