On March 9, 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 827/QD-BVHTTDL announcing the traditional festival - the rice cooking competition of Thi Cam village - as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Locals and tourists flocked to the temple courtyard, filling it to capacity to watch the festival. The members perform a ritual before holding the rice-cooking competition. The competition still retains the traditional method of creating fire by braiding straw and "pulling the fire."According to the rules, the team that produces smoke and creates a fire first wins this part of the competition and uses that fire to cook the rice.Meanwhile, the teams competed to pound the rice grains using wooden pestles and stone mortars. The 10 participants in the team must coordinate very smoothly and skillfully.

The fire was lit and water was boiled in preparation for the freshly cooked rice.

After the rice boils, the teams usually cover it with rice straw ash for about 20 minutes to ensure it cooks evenly.

In addition to the piles of ashes used to bury the rice pots, the teams also burned several fake piles of ashes inside empty rice pots to prolong the fermentation time. The judges walked around the field, using bamboo sticks to poke at each pile of straw in search of the rice pots. The first rice pot was found in the piles of ashes burned in the courtyard of Thi Cam village temple. The rice was brought into the village communal house for public scoring in front of the villagers and members of the participating teams.Bowls of fragrant, evenly-grained white rice are offered to the village's guardian deity.
