Restaurant owner accused of "ripping off" customers in Nha Trang refuses to cooperate with inspection team

(NLDO) - On the afternoon of February 5, an interdisciplinary working group went to inspect the restaurant accused of "overcharging" but failed because the restaurant was closed and the owner could not be contacted.


On February 5, the People's Committee of Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province decided to establish an interdisciplinary team to inspect the case of a restaurant in Nha Trang that was complained about by Chinese customers for "overcharging".

At 4:00 p.m. the same day, the Nha Trang City interdisciplinary inspection team coordinated with Tan Tien Ward Police to inspect Aroma Beach restaurant on Nguyen Thien Thuat Street.

At the time of inspection, the restaurant had removed all its signs and was closed. According to local residents, the restaurant owner had ordered his staff to remove all the signs early in the morning.

The interdisciplinary inspection team knocked on the door several times and tried to contact Mr. Ho Van Tam, the restaurant owner, but was unsuccessful. The team proceeded to make a record at the scene.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Anh Minh, Head of the Finance and Planning Department of Nha Trang City, Head of the Inspection Team, said: "At the time of the inspection, the team noted the lack of cooperation of the restaurant owner. We will report to the Chairman of the Nha Trang City People's Committee and propose further handling measures."

Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, on social media, MH account said that when he accessed the Chinese app Xiaohongshu, he came across a tourist's post reflecting on the "ripping off" incident of the above restaurant.

Bill for all dishes: 15,724,000 VND, "Tet surcharge" 4,717,200 VND, total amount paid by customer is 20,441,200 VND...

Speaking to the press on the morning of February 5, Mr. Ho Van Tam confirmed that the social media post by MH account was about his restaurant.

Mr. Tam said that at 6 p.m. on February 3, the restaurant served a group of about 20 Chinese tourists. The restaurant sells rice portions, each portion is only enough for 1 person. The consultant advised that if they ordered 1 portion, it would be very small, so the Chinese tourists said it would be enough for 20 people. The tour guide who accompanied them also told them to leave "coffee money" for this person.

When the bill was calculated for 20 people, the Chinese group refused. Therefore, both sides agreed to only charge half the bill. The bill with the "huge" price, according to the restaurant owner, was for 20 people, the bill was calculated together.

Regarding this restaurant, previously, a Korean tourist also rated 1 star because of the bill on August 19, 2024, a bowl of beef pho cost 325,000 VND, Saigon beer and soft drink cost 65,000 VND/can...
