This afternoon (February 6), the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City held a regular press conference on the socio-economic situation in the city.

Responding to a question from VietNamNet reporter about the process of streamlining the apparatus, Mr. Dang Quoc Toan - Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that the city has been urgently implementing the policy of streamlining the apparatus according to the time set by the Central Government.

According to Mr. Toan, the city has submitted a project on streamlining the apparatus to competent authorities, in which it proposed to retain the Department of Food Safety, Department of Tourism and Department of Transport.

Mr. Toan further explained that the Department of Food Safety was proposed to be retained in accordance with the specific spirit of Resolution 98 of the National Assembly; the Department of Transport was retained but renamed the Department of Transport and Public Works.

By retaining the above 3 departments, according to Mr. Toan, Ho Chi Minh City still maintains the Central's regulations that there will be 16 departments and branches after streamlining.
