“Godmother” - Support for difficult lives

Sow love

Unlike his peers, Huynh Nguyen Thanh Sang (13 years old) in Phuc Hai village, Dan Luc commune, Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province lost his mother when he was born, and then his father disappeared, leaving him to be cared for by his grandparents. Growing up in the love of his grandparents, Sang's innocent eyes were still filled with sadness every time he saw his peers being picked up by their parents after school.

Due to the poor family situation, the grandparents are getting older and weaker, and the grandmother has a serious illness, so the lives of the grandparents and grandchildren are even more difficult. With the spirit of sharing and joining hands to support children in especially difficult circumstances, 3 years ago, implementing the program "Godmother - connecting love" launched by the Women's Union of the Provincial Police, the Women's Union of the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of the Provincial Police accepted to sponsor and support the upbringing of Huynh Nguyen Thanh Sang. In addition to regularly visiting, encouraging and helping the child in studying, the "godmothers" also contributed and supported the child's family with 8 million VND/year and regularly bought clothes, school supplies, and books for the child.

“Godmother” - Support for difficult lives

Huynh Nguyen Thanh Sang and his godmothers from the Women's Union of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Investigation Agency Office participated in the program "Sunflowers Welcome the Sun".

Mr. Nguyen Tang Chuong (Huynh Nguyen Thanh Sang's maternal grandfather) emotionally shared: Thanks to the regular, friendly care and financial support of the "Godmothers", the grandparents have more conditions to raise Thanh Sang better. From a skinny, shy, quiet boy, Thanh Sang now lives positively and opens his heart more to everyone. Notably, his academic results have improved remarkably. In the 2022 - 2023 school year, Huynh Nguyen Thanh Sang was awarded a Certificate of Merit for his outstanding achievements in studying and training. In the 2024 - 2025 school year, Thanh Sang was one of the 10 students with the best academic results in grade 8. Notably, in 2024, Thanh Sang was one of 4 "adopted children" sponsored by the Women's Union at all levels in the Provincial Police to participate in the program "Sunflowers Welcome the Sun" - honoring and praising exemplary godmothers and orphans who have overcome difficulties.

Similar is the case of Tran Bao Linh (12 years old) in Tho Xuan town, Tho Xuan district. Her father left shortly after she was born, and her mother suddenly passed away from a serious illness about 4 years ago. Lacking her mother's care and her father's guidance and education, Bao Linh lives quietly with her elderly grandparents. Bao Linh herself was born prematurely and has a congenital bone disease, so even though she is 12 years old, she looks skinny and small compared to her peers.

Sympathizing and sharing with her situation, since August 2022, the Women's Union of the Provincial Police Staff Department has opened its arms of compassion and taken on the role of sponsor for Tran Bao Linh. With the sincere feelings and tolerance of the second mothers, Bao Linh receives 500,000 VND in support from the mothers each month. Along with that are household items, clothes, items and even gifts on holidays and Tet. Although they cannot directly take care of her, whenever they have the opportunity, the "godmothers" visit their grandparents and Bao Linh, bringing her warm love and protection.

“Godmother” - Support for difficult lives

Bao Linh grew up in the care and protection of her grandparents and the "godmothers" of the Women's Association of the Thanh Hoa Police Staff Department.

Touched by the kindness of the "godmothers", Tran Bao Linh's maternal grandfather, Tran Cong Dai, 78 years old, wrote: "My family is in a particularly difficult situation in Tho Xuan town. My wife and I only had one daughter, but unfortunately she passed away early due to a serious illness. My husband and I have been poor and hard-working for many years, and now we have to raise and care for a young, orphaned, disabled grandchild left behind by her mother. Bao Linh is 12 years old this year but still cannot walk steadily. My husband and I are extremely worried about her future, not knowing what will happen in the future?! Fortunately, since 2022, my family has received help from the sisters in Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, who have accepted to support and sponsor Bao Linh. This is beyond our imagination...".

90 children have been sponsored

With the motto "The healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" to share and spread love, after more than 3 years of implementing the program "Godmother - Connecting love", up to now, the women's unions at all levels in Thanh Hoa Police have sponsored 90 orphans in difficult circumstances with a support amount of nearly 1 billion VND. Of which, the women's union under the Provincial Police has sponsored 36 children; the commune-level police have sponsored 54 children. The support is implemented periodically every month or quarter for a period of 1-5 years, the support amount is from 500 thousand VND/month to 2 million VND/month.

“Godmother” - Support for difficult lives

Tho Xuong Commune Police, Tho Xuan District, with the model "Commune Police Foster Children", has adopted 4 orphans and children in difficult circumstances.

Not only providing material support, the godmothers in police uniforms have always cared, been close and were present promptly whenever the children needed them, thereby eliminating all distances and psychological barriers, helping them progress in their studies. The good news is that the Program has had a wide spread and attracted a large number of cadres, soldiers, members and union members to participate with enthusiasm, responsibility and many specific and practical actions. A typical example is the model "Adopting children of the commune police" of Tho Xuong commune police, Tho Xuan district.

Captain Le Cao Cuong, Chief of Tho Xuong Commune Police, shared: "This is a model rich in humanity, clearly demonstrating the role and responsibility of police officers and soldiers towards the community, especially towards poor children in especially difficult circumstances.

After the model was implemented, we sponsored 4 orphans, the youngest of whom was 7 years old and the oldest was 12 years old. To help them progress in their studies and become good children and good students, officers and soldiers of the commune police regularly visited, met, and encouraged them to be more confident and try harder in their studies. At first, the children were still self-conscious and kept their distance, but with the sincerity of the officers and soldiers of the commune police, they are now happier, more open-minded, know how to listen, and make progress in their studies."

The absence of parents is an irreplaceable void. Understanding and sharing with the unfortunate lives, the "Godmother" and "Adopted Children of Commune Police" programs have given them more strength and confidence in life. Wherever they are, in the lowlands or in the mountainous areas, the children are welcomed by their godmothers and foster brothers in police uniforms with warm affection. The houses without the caring hands of parents are now warmed by the love of Thanh Hoa Police officers and soldiers - those who are always present in time whenever "People are in need, people are in need".
